Description of the walk

The starting point is the car park in the village square in Sahune. From the D94, opposite the village café, head towards Montréal les Sources. Before crossing the Eygues bridge, turn right to go down and park in the square along the Eygues. Public toilets are available in the square.

(S/E) With your back to the car park, head towards Chemin de la Place, turn right onto the D 205 to go up the bridge over the Eygues, cross it and arrive at a road-path junction.

(1) Leave the road and follow the footpath to the south-west, to the right of the fountain, towards the Old Village. Further on, rejoin the Route du Vieux Village and follow it uphill to the first bend.

(2) Continue straight ahead on Chemin de la Colombine and follow the sign for Vieux Village to reach Trépoul.

(3) Leave the main path and climb up a steep but short path on the left to the Old Village Cross.

(4) Turn right, heading south, then take the hairpin bend to reach the Old Village. Take the time to visit it, especially its museum of ancient arts, the jeu de paume, the ruins currently being restored, the castle overlooking the village (not open to visitors), the old cemetery, the botanical garden, and the orientation table.

(5) Continue towards Rocher des Fées along a quiet forest road.

(6) At Rocher des Fées, leave the forest road (turn right) and carefully step onto the rocky ledge to enjoy the view of the village of Sahune, the Deves mountain, the Angèle mountain overlooking the Baronnies, and the Bramard, symbol of Sahune.

(7) Turn around and then take the forest road on the right, leaving it 500 m further on at a hairpin bend (elevation 686).

(8) Take a path that descends straight south, then turns west and arrives at a fork.

(9) Turn right, west, and head north again, reaching a stream (dry in spring) and following it to a fork at the junction of two streams.

(10) Turn left away from the stream and follow the winding path to the small road: Au fil de l'Eygues, which connects Sahune to Curnier.

(11) Take this road on the right, which leads back to the Sahune bridge along the river.

(1) Cross the bridge and return to the car park where you started (S/E).

An easy hike with the added bonus of a visit to the fascinating old village of Sahune and its botanical trail. The views are superb, as are the autumn colours.
We'll definitely be back...

A very beautiful hike, accessible through fields and woods, with a gradual incline. The landscapes are varied, the nature magnificent and the atmosphere completely peaceful. We didn't encounter any other hikers.
The last part, from point 11 onwards, is less interesting, as it is on the road and there is no shade.
Worth doing again!

Hike completed on Monday, 9 September 2024 by a couple in their late seventies from Vaucluse. The mistral wind failed to clear the cloudy sky, a remnant of the previous day's orange alert. And yet, the night before, the weather forecast had predicted bright sunshine over the Baronnies! At the start, we reached the Old Village directly via the GRP. The summit of Rocher des Fées seems difficult to reach in a round trip: bushes and rocks of all kinds. However, after 50 metres, a large window offers a 180° view. The descent is quite wild, framed by signs saying "Private property. No trespassing". But the area is deserted, and we didn't meet anyone along the entire route. After point 11 at Les Hermasses, we took the PR trail on the right, which quickly turns into a very pleasant path. All in all, it's a real hike (with plenty of ups and downs), mostly on paths, sometimes softened by the decomposition of Austrian pine needles, offering sweeping views of the Eygues Valley, upstream and downstream. A few vultures watched over us. 4 hours 10 minutes, including a picnic. The walk can be started from the large Camping des Ramières campsite in Curnier.

A magnificent hike with varied landscapes that is not difficult but still sufficiently challenging! Much of the route is shaded, which is very welcome on hot, sunny days.
We loved the old village of Sahune, the highlight of this route. To get the most out of it, we recommend turning left rather than right at point 4 (towards the north-east), so you can wander through the old village's paths between the ruins and the botanical trail, and then easily find your way back to point 5.
The last section of the route (after point 11) is not very interesting, as it is on a tarmac road. Perhaps return to the village via the path on the terraces (signposted)?

A lovely springtime walk combining historical discoveries (an old village, an abandoned farm, pine plantations dating from the 19th and 20th centuries to stop erosion of the hills), agricultural landscapes and heaths. No difficulty. Take care at Rocher des Fées if you are accompanied by children or pets that are not used to steep terrain.
