Park in the car park of the Chalet-Hôtel du Gioberney.
(S/E) Head due north with your back to the Chalet-Hôtel and, after 50 m, turn left and continue until you reach a crossroads of paths.
(1) Turn left towards Lac du Lauzon and you’ll soon enter the Parc des Écrins. Continue up an easy slope. Cross the Ruisseau du Lauzon a few metres from the Voile de la Mariée waterfall. You’ll reach a hairpin bend.
(2) Continue along this bend, turning 180°, until you reach another footbridge over the Ruisseau du Lauzon.
(3) Cross the stream and follow its left bank. Arrive at Lac du Lauzon.
(4) Walk along the right-hand side of the lake, continuing uphill until you reach another fork.
(5) Turn left onto an unmarked but well-trodden track. Continue the climb to reach Lac Bleu. Note: climb the small hill for a better view and to see its blue colour.
(6) Continue along the path until, at the bottom of the descent, you reach a crossroads amidst several streams.
(7) Continue northwards uphill, crossing the Muande Bellone torrent and then one of its tributaries. Then begin a steeper climb via tight switchbacks before reaching a flatter area.
(8) Continue easily to reach the Refuge du Pigeonnier. Take care here: there are late snowfields and snow bridges until June, which make the passage difficult.
(9) Begin the descent, keeping to the right at the next junction. You will then reach the Torrent de Vaccivier.
(10) Cross it and continue the descent, crossing the Vallon du Gioberney. Head due south to reach the junction at the Cabane de Vaccivier.
(11) Turn right and, via a steep and tricky descent marked by the purple dots on the map, head down the Vallon du Gioberney and along the right bank of the Torrent du Gioberney to reach the Cabane du Gioberney.
(12) Continue along the right bank of the torrent to return to the Gioberney car park (S/E).
