Park in the Parc du Cypressat car park in Cenon.
(S/E): Leave the car park by heading down the left-hand side to the east of the esplanade. Follow the wide forest track; turn left after a short, sometimes slippery descent. You will reach the rainwater retention basins
(1) Go round them and continue along the semi-private road that runs alongside the drinking water reservoirs. You’ll reach the junction with the Côte de l’Empereu.
(2) Cross it, then turn left onto Côte de Montrepos, using the pedestrian crossings and taking great care with traffic. Walk up Côte de Montrepos for a few metres, then turn right onto Côte de Caumont. Continue to the junction with Rue de Sybirol
(3) Climb the small flight of steps, then go through the metal gate leading into the Domaine de Sybirol housing estate. Turn right, walk alongside the meadows, then cross over and head up the footpath between the houses. Leave the housing estate and turn right onto Rue Pierre Sémirot. At thethird street on the right, by the wayside cross, turn right onto Chemin du Tirecul. Walk past the former astronomical observatory of the University of Bordeaux. Note the domes and radio telescopes left behind on the left.
After the last houses, carefully make your way down the often-slippery slope to the rust-coloured gate of the Parc des Coteaux de Floirac.
(4) Take the metal staircase and follow the path as it descends gently to the right through the wooded park to Avenue Pasteur.
On leaving the park, cross Avenue Pasteur and continue northwards. Cross Cours Gambetta and continue along the same pavement until you reach the junction with Boulevard de l’Entre-Deux-Mers.
Cross it , using the pedestrian crossings and taking great care with the traffic, and make your way to the bottom of Rue du Maréchal Gallieni.
(5) Turn left onto this street and walk up it to the aptly named Place Bellevue.
(6) Turn left at Place Bellevue; don’t miss the esplanade and its panoramic view of Bordeaux.
Turn round, cross the road and continue along Rue du Maréchal Gallieni.
After a good hundred metres, turn right and continue to the esplanade by the church and Saint-Romain cemetery. Here too, the panoramic view over Bordeaux is breathtaking.
As you leave the cemetery, turn right and follow the path leading to the Korian care home: Les Hauts de Cenon. As soon as possible, turn left and then head for the road leading to the Parc du Cypressat car park, situated slightly to the right and below (S/E).
