From Le Boulou, head to Prats-de-Mollo (D115), cross it, continue to La Preste les Bains (D115a) and park in the large car park after the spa.
Yellow and red GRP® Ronde du Canigousignposts
(S/E) Set off again on the road you arrived on, from the top (D115a), against the mountain, until you reach the spa resort of La Preste les Bains. Continue on the D115a until you reach a crossroads. Leave the small road on the left towards Les Conques and the wide road on the right, cross the road and continue left on the D115a for a few metres.
Off the marked route
(1) Look for a passage in the protective wall on the right-hand side of the road. Descend to the right along a path below the road. Pass the Veïnat de la Farga wash house (the hamlet of La Forge). Turn left and continue for about 30 metres.
- If the path is overgrown with grass, continue on the D115a (GRP®) and descend to the right 350 m further on (GRP®) to La Farga.
Yellow and red GRP® Ronde du Canigousignposts
(2) Go up to the right via a wide staircase between two houses and, at the top, continue to the right on a well-marked path. Directional sign: Coll Pregon.
(3) Go through a wooden gate, continue climbing steeply and arrive at a fork. Directional signpost: Collada des Alles Aiguader.
Sparseyellow markings
(4) Leave the GRP®. Descend slightly to the right and cross a stream, then a wooden passage in the fence. Begin a very steep climb heading west. You will come out at the end of a track at Collada de l'Aiguader (altitude 1367). There are no signs or markings!
No markings
(5) Continue straight ahead on this wide grassy track. Pass the Còrrec de l'Artiga d'en França, turn right, north-west, and continue for about 500 m. Look for yellow inscriptions on a rock on the left: La Farge and Col de Siern. Just after, at an altitude of 1,442 metres, look for a purple mark on a rock at the start of the path. There are no signs or markings!
Old yellow markings (PR®8) and a few purple marks
(6) Caution: very few markings and many trees across the path.
If in doubt, you can continue along the track until you find a yellow and white marker pointing towards Coll de Siern.
- Climb steeply to the left and continue to the right, overlooking the track for about 20 metres. Then turn completely left onto a path that climbs steadily. You will soon come to a yellow marker. Continue along a well-marked path, littered with fallen trees, which climbs slightly and steadily. Much further on, descend a little and you will come to a fork. Directional signpost: Col de Siern.
Yellow and white markings
(7) Escape route on the right, directly towards La Preste, in case of problems.
- Start off to the left in an open area. Much further on, you will reach a fork in the forest. Signpost: Coll de Siern.
(8) Climb up to the left, south, go around a large tree across the path (early June 2025) and reach the Coll de Siern. Large area with a beautiful unobstructed view. Directional signpost. Boundary marker no. 514.
(9) Turn around and return to the fork after the large tree across the path. Another black wooden sign with yellow lettering: Refugí des Conques.
Scatteredyellow markings
(8) Turn left into the forest onto a path that descends slightly. Further on, descend more steeply and join a track at an altitude of 1510 metres.
(10) Turn left onto this track.
A few metres further on, there is an escape route on the far right, leading directly to La Preste, in case of problems.
- Continue along the track, ignoring a path on the left towards Coll de Siern. Continue along the track. Much further on and higher up, after a right-hand bend, then another left-hand bend, you will reach an open area with a small bench on the right-hand side, behind a rock.
This is a beautiful spot for a break. From here, the path to Cabane de l'Ullat is open.
(11) Continue for a few metres until you reach a wooden enclosure. Cross it and you will come to a fork at an altitude of 1660 metres. There is a signpost.
(12) Continue to the right, almost flat. Cross the Còrrec de l'Ortiga and turn completely right, heading east, climbing steeply to reach the Coll de la Serra de l'Ullat. A very large and beautiful spot with a 360° view.
Yellow markings on small wooden posts
(13) Continue straight ahead, descending steeply, down the slope towards the orri and the hut clearly visible below. Further down, when the slope levels out, you will come to another fork. Directional signpost.
(14) Here too, continue straight ahead and join the orri and the Cabane de l'Ullat. A beautiful spot for a lunch break. Water source below.
Yellow markings on small wooden posts lead to the spring.
(15) Descend to the right, pass the captured spring (water available in early June 2025).
(16) After a stony section, go through a steel gate (close it behind you) and start the descent on a very good forest path. Look out for the markings and follow them carefully.
(17) Caution: when you leave the forest, in a small open area, turn completely right, south, onto a path (overgrown with grass in early June 2025). After a long descent on a path, rejoin a small grassy track. In a wet area, pass a farmhouse (La Grevodella) which is undergoing renovation. Further down, still on the small grassy track, you will come to a farmhouse on the left with access blocked by a chain. Look out for a post with yellow markings on the right.
Don't worry, the grassy track joins the track suitable for vehicles and the route described.
(18) Climb slightly to the right along a path and then descend along the stream.
(19) Cross a footbridge and immediately join a bend in the road.
(20) Turn left onto this road, which descends slightly, and join a road and a path on the right.
(21) Continue straight ahead on the road, cross the road bridge over the Tech and return to the car park (S/E).
