The start is at the cemetery car park, Rue Dessous les Chênes.
(S/E) Head down the path in front of you, signposted ‘sources’. Continue until you reach the edge of the stream and climb the path leading to the top of the waterfalls.
(1) At the springs, head along the left bank to explore the Grotte aux Ours. Don’t miss the second spring and its waterfall a little further up.
Then head back down a few metres and take the track on your right, which climbs steeply into the forest. Walk a few hundred metres until you reach the signposts. Turn right along the steep path signposted for the Roches des Nans.
(2) At the top of this section, take the small path on your left. It is marked with a yellow line. Continue in the same direction to the Roche des Nans viewpoint, ignoring the side paths.
Enjoy the view, stretching from the Haut Jura to Mont Poupet and the plains of the Saône and Doubs, and the first hills of Burgundy. Take care, as this is an unsecured site. Head back towards the meadows, turning your back on the cliffs. As you emerge into the meadow, follow the edge of the woods on your left and join the forest track.
(3) Turn left and follow this track. At the next junction, take the path on the left.
At the edge of the meadows, use the mountain bike track to enter the pasture and head straight ahead. You will reach the Route Forestière du Sauget.
(4) Turn right and continue along this pleasant road for about a kilometre.
(5) Look out for a signpost on your left (much more visible when coming from the other direction!) for the Chemin Forestier des Petites Croix. Head uphill until you reach a junction with the Route Forestière de la Joux.
(6) Go straight on to quickly descend back into the valley. Continue without leaving this road. After a sharp left-hand bend, continue downhill and ignore the signposted path on the left.
Head towards the hamlet of Les Petits Nans, which you cross by turning left towards the river.
(7) Carefully cross the D288 and take the path opposite you, which climbs steeply into the forest, veering to the left. Continue along the mountainside until you reach the Route Forestière des Nans au Larderet, then emerge onto the main road.
(8) Turn left towards the village. At the fountain, turn right and head back to your car park (S/E).
