(S/E) Park at Plan Lachat on the Col du Galibier road, then take the track towards Les Mottets, passing a path to Les Rochilles on your left.
(1) Go around the houses at Les Mottets and then take the path above that climbs steadily south-east. Before reaching Lac des Cerces, join theGR®57.
(2) Take it south, turning right. Reach the Ruisseau des Chardonnets.
(3) Continue opposite on theGR®57and climb up a long path through the Vallon de l'Ane to reach the Col de la Ponsonnière at 2,613 metres.
(4) Cross over to the other side of the pass into the Hautes Alpes department and descend for 15 minutes to Lac de la Ponsonnière.
(5) Return to the Col de la Ponsonnière.
(4) Descend the Vallon de l'Ane to reach the Ruisseau des Chardonnets.
(3) Leave theGR®57and take the path on the right.
(6) Skirt the lake then head north to rejoin theGR®57. Tackle a steady climb to reach the Col des Cerces at 2,574m.
(7) Cross the pass and, as you descend, the Grand Ban and Rond lakes will gradually come into view. Leave the path on the right that descends and continue to the left, north-west, along the side of Lac du Grand Ban.
(8) Reach the Col des Rochilles, then descend to the camp of the same name.
(9) Leave the camp via the military track, pass Col de la Pare and you will come to a trail junction.
(10) Take the path on the right, descending parallel to the Ruisseau de la Jargette stream without crossing it. Pass close to the military track several times. You will rejoin the track above the houses of Les Mottets.
(11) Follow it for a short while, then take a path on the right that leads back to the lower part of Les Mottets.
Join up with the route you started on.
(1) Follow it to return to the car park (S/E).
