Description of the walk

Departure from the Lodge auberge du Tétras Lyre.

(S/E) From the lodge, cross the Torrent Savara and take the wide track on the left bank to reach the Hostellerie du Grand Paradis in Pont.

(1) Behind this building, take the signposted path on the left, which winds through the forest before emerging at the Crois d'Aroley.

(2) Continue, leaving the path that starts shortly after this cross on your right. Approach and then follow the Dora del Nivolet to reach a new crossroads.

(3) Take the path on the right, cross the Dora on a footbridge and begin another climb to cross the Chalets de Turin. Continue the climb, winding your way up and making use of the iron steps that make it easier to progress in the stony areas. Join the track coming from the Col du Nivolet (see details in the "During" section).

(4) Cross the track and continue climbing. Follow a few tight hairpin bends to reach the cross-country trail connecting the summit pastures.

(5) Turn left to quickly reach the Chalet de Pian Borgnoz.

(6) Return to the previous crossroads.

(5) Stay on the cross trail. In a circular loop, cross a scree slope of large rocks before reaching the junction with the trail leading to Col du Marteau.

(7) Keep to the right-hand path and begin crossing the Meyes alpine chalets, which are unfortunately in ruins. First Meyes Superiore, then Meyes Di Mezzo and finally Meyes Inferiore.

(8) Make a nearly 180° turn here to finish the descent on the trail at the junction with the road-track (see details in the "During" section).

(9) Take this road and continue to the tunnel.

(10) Go through it and stay on this road to reach the initial crossroads.

(1) Follow the same route as on the way there to return to the Tétras Lyre Lodge (S/E).

Exceptional view of Gran Paradiso and numerous marmots. There is water at the chalet at point 6 (the chalet is occupied). For the tunnel, be sure to bring a headlamp as the light is not immediately visible ... at the end of the tunnel

We followed the advice of other hikers in the car park, who suggested taking a shortcut to shorten the hike. We completed the hike in the planned direction and found that this worked well. As for the hike itself, we thought it was magnificent: splendid and varied panoramas, rivers, waterfalls, streams, a lovely surprise in the summer pastures, an abundance of flowers, a wide variety of rocks, butterflies... Thank you to the author!

A very beautiful hike, the alpine landscape with this river winding through it at high altitude is truly superb. As mentioned in another review, you need to start from the large car park (opposite the hotel). There is a tourist information point in this car park, as well as toilets. This reduces the hike to 12.5 km (4½ hours of actual walking for us seniors). Up to point 3, the trail is relatively busy (at the end of July). After that, there is hardly anyone. If you do it in reverse, it will be less demanding because the 200-metre climb is at the beginning, going up the large forest track.

The hike is truly superb.
You can start from the Pont car park (shortening the route by 2 km).
The initial climb is steady and not too difficult. The same goes for the descent, which is a little steep at first but then fairly easy.
