Villotran Circular Loop

A lovely walk through fields and woods in a lush green region. Picturesque little hamlets with old brick houses. The path offers a variety of landscapes, and a few lovely ascents and descents will make the walk all the more enjoyable. You’ll have very little walking on tarmac; the route consists mainly of grassy paths or stony tracks. This path follows the yellow markings of a PR® trail throughout.

Description of the walk

Park near the Villotran cemetery on Rue des Landes, where there is a large car park.

(S/E) With your back to the village, take the wide path that continues from Rue des Landes.
Continue along this path, which runs between the fields and then through a small wood. Keep going in this direction, crossing a small road near Beaumont-les-Nonains.

(1) Turn right onto the path heading north-west, which briefly follows the GR®.
(2) After about a kilometre, leave the GR® and turn right, following the path to the hamlet of Chantoiseau.

(3) Take the road on the left and head to the T-junction just past a pond.

(4) Turn right to follow the Chemin de Villotran, which is tarmac for a few hundred metres before becoming a track again.

(5) When you reach the three-way junction, keep right and continue eastwards.

(6) Keep left and continue along the track to leave the wooded area and reach a four-way junction.

(7) Ignore the first path on the right, which ends in a dead end, and take the next one to return to Villotran. The path becomes tarmac and leads onto Rue des Landes.

(8) Turn right and head for the cemetery car park (S/E).

Notes

No water points available. The paths are often very stony and you’ll need good walking shoes.

Worth a visit

After the walk, don’t miss the beautiful little 12th-century church in La Neuville-Garnier. This village is Saint-Éloi, well known from the song about Dagobert’s trousers.
Villotran Castle is of little interest.
The Mesenguy farm, at the other end of the village, sells fresh, organic produce via a vending machine. The produce is really good and very affordable

A very pleasant, peaceful route with very few sections on the road; it’s wooded, and for early March in the sunshine, it’s a lovely surprise.
