Description of the walk

Park at the Bains car park in Villard-de-Lans.

(S/E) Head up towards the school and, after a left-hand bend, you’ll come to a crossroads of paths.

(1) Keep to the right on the road, walk alongside the school and, via a circular loop to the right, reach the Frier junction, where there is a signpost.

(2) Take the path on the left, continuing to climb southwards. Then enter the woods and reach the vicinity of the start of the 1968 Winter Olympics luge track.

(3) Take a short detour to the right to locate it. Then turn right and head towards Rajasset. Keep left and you will soon reach the GR®91 junction marked by a cross.

(4) Take the GR® to the left and head up towards the Clots car park.

(5) In front of the Glovettes building, leave the GR® 91 and take the path that climbs to the left across the meadow, following the barbed wire. At the top of the meadow, you’ll find a lovely path leading to the Clots car park.

(6) Join the GR®91 again on the left and, at the edge of the woods, reach a four-way crossroads overlooking the Vallon de la Fauge.

(7) Leave the GR® and turn right, heading due south, onto the path running parallel to the Ruisseau de la Fauge. You will reach the edge of the woods.

(8) Make a round trip to the Abri des Fauges. Return to the path.

(9) Cross the Ruisseau de la Fauge. At the Bergerie de la Fauge, follow the edge of the woods and then enter them. Continue the climb, finishing at the Refuge de Roybon.

(10) Begin the descent by taking the GR® to the left. Pass thefirst junction. Atthe second, turn right to cross the hamlet of Les Plâtres and reach a hairpin bend.

(11) Turn left 180° onto the descending path. Cut across the GR® and continue straight ahead on the GR® alternative route. Cross the Ruisseau de la Fauge again via a small bridge. You will then come back to the four-way junction you passed earlier.

(7) Turn right, following the Ruisseau de la Fauge at a distance to reach the Pont de l'Amour.

(12) Take the wide path on the left and, on emerging from the woods, you will reach the hamlet of Darmier.

(13) Continue north-west along the streets and paths, passing in front of the school, then return to the initial crossroads you passed on the way out.

(1) Follow the route back in the opposite direction to the right until you reach the Bains car park (S/E).
