Park at the "Steinabruck" car park in Rue de Mittlach in Metzeral, along the Grande Fecht.
(S/E) Cross the bridge over the river, pass the "Auberge et Chalets de la Wormsa" and turn left onto the stony Guttel Weg or GR®5 access road. Continue until you reach the fork in the Wormsa forest tracks at the end of the wide right-hand curve.
Red Rectangle GR®5 signposting.
(1) Take the left-hand path. From the grassy passageway, take the GR®5, known at this point as the "Wormsa path", which has been open since 1885, towards the small Fischboedle lake. The narrow path winds up the side of the mountain, past a wooden bridge and fields of moraine and scree.
A few technical sections lead to a number of small waterfalls, which are crossed by a series of wooden footbridges known as "Passerelles de la Wormsa".
(2) The narrow, rocky path joins the Fischboedle path or GR®5 access route.
(3) Follow it to the left and you will reach the dam at Lac du Fischboedle, where a concrete staircase leads up to the lakeshore and gazebo.
(4) Near the gazebo, climb to the left towards Lac du Schiessrothried along the narrow rocky path, which is a little strenuous in places and runs alongside the Wormsabach to reach the lake dam.
(5) Cross it to reach the crossroads at the end of the dam.
Blue Ring signposting.
(6) Take the path on the left, right-hand side of the lake for a nice, easy walk around the lake. Follow the Blue Ring markers along the shore, passing a few houses and the Schiessrothried Refuge. After a few hundred metres, reach a rock overlooking the lake (small viewpoint).
(7) Continue over a small wooden bridge and return to the dam.
(5) Cross it again to reach the crossroads at the end of the dam.
Markings Red rectangle with white stripes
(6) Turn right, following the signs for Sillacker Metzeral along a wide forest track that descends easily. After approx. 450 m, ignore the first forest track on the right and after approx. 1 km there is a wide forest track on the right.
There are no markings.
(8) Follow this wide, winding but easy path and join the GR®5 access path or Chemin du Fischboedle below.
Red easel markings.
(9) Follow it to the left for around 150 m, until it forks with the path on the right towards the 14-18 cable car.
No markings.
(10) Descend this winding forest path, which continues on level ground, skirting the Wormsa river on the left, to reach the remains of the 14-18 "Wormsa cable car".
(11) Continue along the wide, open forest path until you reach the fork in the Wormsa forest paths you passed on the outward journey.
(1) Return via the path in the opposite direction to the outward journey, along the GR®5 access route alongside the Fecht, to reach the car park (S/E).
