Description of the walk

Park in the town hall car park, Place du 11 Novembre 1918.

(S/E) With your back to the town hall, follow Avenue du 8 mai 1945 to the left. Turn left onto Rue du Port Leyron and cross the bridge over the Lyssandre to reach a junction.

(1) Turn right towards the quays. Walk down to the banks of the Dordogne, then head back up Impasse des Quais to the end, turn right and return to the crossroads.

(1) Keep to the right. At the car park, veer right. On leaving the village, turn onto the dirt track that climbs to the left, into the woods where you’ll find a magnificent view of the Dordogne. Walk past the pidgeon hunting hut and you’ll reach some vineyards. Head to the corner of the first plot.

(2) Head right onto the path and continue to the D18, where you turn right. Turn left at the first junction onto the Route de Lafon de Lourme.

(3) Follow the road to the left until you reach the D936. Turn right, then left onto the grassy track towards the hamlet of Tenot. At the end of this track, turn right onto the small tarmac road and follow it to the Route de la Gendarmerie, where it ends.

(4) Turn left. Further on, turn right onto Route de Ninon. Follow the road downhill and cross the bridge over the Lyssandre. Follow the vineyard lane ahead of you and rejoin the road.

(5) Turn right, then right again into the first vineyard lane. Follow the rows, then turn left to walk alongside the Lyssandre and reach the hamlet known as Le Plantier. Then, at the last vineyard plot, turn left, then right, and you’ll come out onto the road.

(6) Turn right, continue along this small road and turn left onto the path between the two fields. Follow the path to Brussac. When you reach the hamlet, turn right, then left at the first junction. Pass the houses, follow the path between the vines and turn right onto the D122 until the junction for Jean Larc.

(7) Turn left towards Jean Larc. After passing the first house on your left, take the limestone path on the left. Go down the path, cross the stream, then head back up the path towards Lugaignac church.

(8) Walk past the church on the left. At the crossroads, turn right and then right again towards the town hall. Follow the road to the village of Lugaignac.
Take the small road on the left just before the town hall. At the end of this road, turn right and then left onto the first path between the vineyards. Walk along the left-hand side of the copse and rejoin the road.

(9) Turn left onto the road heading towards the mill. Cross the junction with the D19 with care and take the dirt track between the vineyards on your left. Follow this track to reach the housing estate in the hamlet of Pérey.

(10) On the tarmac road, turn right into the first vineyard lane. After passing the first plot, follow the path on the right and continue straight ahead to reach the road.

(11) Turn right towards the D19E2. Cross it carefully and take the small road opposite (signposted Labroue). Pass through the hamlet of Labroue, then follow the dirt track leading into the woods and head up to the church.

(12) After passing the church and the car park, cross the D19E2 , taking care, and take the small road opposite along the wall. On your left, you can see the 16th-century Château de l’Heyrisson.
At the Stop sign, cross the road and take the path between the vineyards ahead of you. Enter the woods and follow the path to reach the plateau. Continue to the road.

(13) Turn right, then immediately left onto the grassy path. At the vineyard plot, turn left, then right onto the road, then left after the cemetery. You will come to a three-way junction.

(14) Turn right and pass the “Cabara” sign. At the stop sign, cross the main road to take the road opposite. Head down into the village, which offers a beautiful view of the meandering Dordogne. Continue to the second bend.

(15) Go straight on along a grassy path that leads downhill and enter the woods. Go through the small wooden gate and you’ll arrive in the village. Follow the small street straight on to the Dordogne and head down to the left to Port de Cabara.

(16) Turn left onto Avenue du Port. After the speed bump, turn right into Rue Beylit. At the junction, keep left and rejoin the D18. Keep right until you reach a dead end.

(17) Turn right into the dead end, towards La Roucaude. Continue straight on to the banks of the Dordogne. Then turn left and follow the river. After the vineyards, turn right at the hedge, before the garden. At the road, keep to the right and follow the path along the Dordogne. After passing the fishing hut, follow the limestone path, keeping straight ahead until this is no longer possible at Les Grands Prés.

(18) At the end of the path, turn left and continue to the D18. Cross it carefully and take the path opposite towards the hamlet of Guspit. Pass the building and enter the woods (caution: the path can become slippery in heavy rain). You will rejoin the road further up.

(19) Turn right and, at the entrance to the hamlet, turn right onto the small street running alongside the stone wall. After completing a circular route, head straight down to a crossroad. Continue to the right until the next junction.

(20) Opposite No. 44, turn right (Chemin de la Tannerie) and, at the next junction, first turn right then left and continue along Chemin de Lillot. Then turn left onto Rue des Pêcheurs. At the church, turn left onto the D936 and then immediately right onto Rue de l’Église. At the end of the street, turn left to return to your starting point (S/E).

At point 18 on the route description, the path climbs very steeply. The path is not signposted; there is a tangle of branches and tree trunks, all on very slippery ground (even when it hasn’t rained).
At point 19 of the route description, it states: “At the cross (point 48), turn right and go down the path which leads to a small tarmac road”. There is now a barrier, with barrier tape blocking the passage, making it private property. You must make a U-turn via Chemin de Lagut and Rue de la Tannerie.
A lovely walk with varied scenery!

A pleasant walk, best done in autumn when the ground is dry.
There is currently a lot of mud and the end of the route is impassable and even dangerous as the path is narrow and very slippery (points 18/19 to 20); it is better to take the parallel road to finish this walk.
Quite a bit of tarmac road but pleasant sections through the forest and vineyards, with lovely views over the Dordogne.
There are also Romanesque churches and cemeteries worth seeing.
