Start from the car park at the Beaucroissant tennis courts. You can park a horsebox in the car park, which is often empty, even at weekends.
(S/E) Head towards Renage, then turn right to enter the forest. Pass La Billardière, continue straight on, keeping your course at the crossroads.
(1) At Mollard Cheval, first turn left then right to continue, passing under the power lines. Enjoy a nice gallop; your horse will stop of its own accord on the uphill section: a word of warning to riders who find it difficult to stop their horse.
(2) Take the path on the right, the one that goes uphill. If you miss it, you can carry on straight ahead and take the next right to get back on track.
(3) Here, tackle a steep, stony climb. If possible, stop galloping beforehand as the terrain is tricky. Join the road at Col de Parménie.
(4) Turn left for about a hundred metres, then take the first path on the right marked GR® White and Red. Continue, turning left for a steep climb. Take your time as the climb is very long. If you’re on foot... good luck.
(5) Continue straight on, temporarily leaving the GR®, then take the first path on the left to rejoin it. Another lovely climb for your horse. This time it’s on dirt rather than pebbles. Carry on to the right for about 300 m to reach an open area with a lovely view :from left to right, you can see the Chartreuse, Belledone and Vercors mountain ranges.
(6) Continue along the GR® and you’ll come out onto a road: you can take a break in the shaded car park.
(7) Turn right, leaving the GR®, then turn right again at the three-way junction that appears shortly afterwards.
(8) At this point, the path narrows: don’t worry, you’re in the right place. Follow the path as it winds along the contour line and enjoy the enchanting woodland to reach the next junction on the edge of the forest.
(9) Dismount and walk your horse gently by the hand, returning to civilisation by joining the tarmac road near a few houses.
(10) Turn right at the junction; the road goes downhill. At the next junction, turn right at a 90° angle and head towards a crossroads where a wayside cross stands.
(11) Head left and do not take the pretty path opposite. Ride for about 200 m then turn right onto the first path, which is just as lovely.
(12) Set off on a final gallop and enjoy the ride, keeping well to the right at the next junction. You’ll reach a three-way junction about 200 m further on.
(13) Turn left, then right at the first fork just ahead. Then head left for a descent that, for once, is not technical as there are no pebbles. Once at the bottom of the descent, turn right at a 90° angle, then finish with a nice trot to reach the ponds.
(14) Ride straight on and walk the horse along the left-hand side of the pond.
(15) Once directly beneath the power lines, first turn left then right to follow the edge of further ponds and reach the car park (S/E).
