The Brosse circular route via Saint-Caprais to Yvoy-le-Marron

A walk with varied paths, very pleasant in early spring. Most of this circular route follows paths through forests, some of which are well maintained, whilst others have been deliberately left untended to provide habitat for wildlife.

Description of the walk

Park at Place de l’Église in Yvoy-le-Marron.

(S/E) Set off towards the town centre (south-east) and join the Grande Rue at Place du Cheval Blanc, then turn left twice towards La Ferté-Saint-Aubin.
Walk for about seventy metres until you reach a Y-junction.

(1) Turn left onto Rue du Moulin (GR® de Pays de Sologne, yellow and red markings) and continue, ignoring all side paths, until you reach an inverted Y-junction.
Follow the left-hand branch for five hundred metres.

(2) Turn right, following the sign for Route 1, ignoring all side paths until you reach the D 104; cross the road carefully.
Continue along the path opposite (no markings), ignoring all side paths, until you reach a crossroads.
Follow the slightly uphill path opposite, marked ‘Route 1’, until you reach a junction with a wider path.

(3) Turn left (Route 1) and join a wide white track at a place called Boutay; cross it and follow the track opposite, still marked ‘Route 1’.
The path comes to a fence; turn right, then left, and go through a game fence (or Canadian gate). Walk alongside a fence, ignoring all side paths, go through another game fence and reach a road; cross it with care.

(4) Follow the path opposite, signposted ‘Route 1’, ignoring all side paths, and pass the Étang Rompu on your left.
Continue, ignoring all side paths, until you reach the path to Château des Bruyères; follow the wide path on the right (unmarked).
Pass through the hamlet of Faviou and join the D35; take care when crossing.

(5) Continue straight on along the path marked ‘Route 1’, take a left-hand bend, then at the next junction turn right and continue along the dyke of the Étang du Saule (renamed Étang d’Isabelle).
Carry on along this long grassy track, ignoring any side paths, until you reach the wide Allée des Picarrons and cross it.
Continue along the path opposite, take a left-hand bend and follow the ‘Route 1’ markings. Ignore all minor paths, reach a wide white path and then turn right, following the ‘Route 1’ markings.

(6) Just before Château Saint-Joseph, turn right and leave the château on your left.
Continue along the wide white track, with the Étang des Châteaux on your left and the hamlet of Les Châteaux on your right.
Carry on until you reach a road, turn right and carefully follow the road along the left-hand verge for about one hundred and fifty metres.

(7) Turn left at the fork, following the ‘Route 1’ sign; walk for eight hundred metres, letting the path leading to the Étang des Oiseaux branch off to the right, and follow the path on the left.
Ignore all side paths and head towards a T-junction at a place called La Brosse.

(8) Turn right onto theGR® de Pays de Sologne, walk for about six hundred metres, then leave theGR® to the left, following the yellow markings.
Ignore all side paths and continue along the path, which now climbs slightly.
Take a sharp right-hand bend, leaving two paths on your left, and continue to the next left-hand bend (just before the hamlet of Le Tertre).

(9) Leave the path to the right and take a grassy, descending route marked ‘Route 1’.
Just before the edge of a meadow, turn left and walk along the edge of the meadow, following the ‘Route 1’ markings. Reach an inverted Y-junction and continue straight on along the embankment of the Étang des Ruaux (now dry), crossing a wooden footbridge.
At the end of the embankment, cross a deep ditch via the embankment and turn right. Follow the uphill path marked ‘Route 1’ and ignore any side paths.
At the highest point, you’ll see the ‘Route 1’ markings again.
Begin a gentle descent, pass a grassy section opposite some uninhabited buildings and reach a junction at a place called Rigoubert.

(10) Take the path opposite signposted ‘Route 1’, ignoring the side paths (all private) until you reach an inverted Y-junction, then turn left following the ‘Route 1’ sign.
Continue to the D104 and cross carefully.

(11) Follow the path opposite, ignoring all side paths as well as the ‘Le Domaine’ entrance, until you reach the D88 and cross it with care.
Follow the Chemin de Fontenailles, marked with yellow signs. At the Y-junction, let the Chemin de Fontenaille continue straight ahead and follow the path on the right signposted ‘Route 2’.
Continue on, ignoring all minor paths, and pass Étang Bignon (barely visible from the path).
Carry on straight ahead until you reach a junction where the path on the right is signposted ‘Route 2’.

(12) Turn right and head towards an inverted Y-junction; turn right, following the sign for Route 2. Continue along this wide track, ignoring all side tracks, pass the hamlet of Les Boulettes and reach the D35; cross with care.
Turn right towards Yvoy-Le-Marron, carefully follow the road along the left-hand verge and pass the town entrance sign.

(13) Turn left onto Rue du Parc Jean Prouvost; this road climbs and passes close to the care home. Continue to the car park (S/E).

A route consisting mainly of forest tracks and paths (a bit muddy between 9 and 10 following a spell of rain). The forest is indeed left in its natural state to encourage the growth of game. Given the number of watchtowers and fences, it’s best not to be there on opening day!!!!
That aside (but then again, we are in Sologne), we thoroughly enjoyed this lovely 17-kilometre route (in early March), without encountering a single soul.

A lovely walk, especially the first part, where we passed through large estates. We really enjoyed coming face to face with two magnificent stags just a few steps away from us.
The route is very well mapped out. Just as an anecdote, at the start, the horse in the square turned white (perhaps due to the summer heat…
A walk I’d highly recommend, and thanks to the author

No, that’s not possible at the moment in the search bar for this type of route. And in the hiking search, you’ll only find results matching those criteria

A very enjoyable walk

A general suggestion regarding searches: would it be possible to select by keyword?
Circular or linear walks
This would be a great help with the search
