Circular Digny via the Château de la Hallière

Digny is located on the border between Perche and Thimerais. This route through the fields starts at the foot of the bell tower of Saint-Germain Church, built in 1525 and recently beautifully restored. In 2025, a local association organised various events to celebrate the500th anniversary of its construction.
The route takes you to the 16th-century Ferme du Romphaye farm and the Château de la Hallière castle, built in 1770. The return journey takes you through the hamlets of La Richardière and Bellandas, allowing you to return quickly to Digny or extend your walk to Mille Champs along paths offering beautiful views of the village.

Description of the walk

Reach Digny via the D928 from La Loupe or Dreux, or via the D24 from Chartres or Senonches. Parking is available at Place Saint-Germain, around the church.

Yellow and red markings for the GRP® Vallées de la Blaise et de l'Avre

(S/E) From the car park, with your back to the church, turn right towards Senonches, Rue Paul Deschanel. At the village exit, turn left onto the straight road, pass the farm known as Le Château, with a pond, and continue straight on until you reach the entrance to Bellandas.

(1) At the crossroads, turn right, go around the large property, leave the hamlet and arrive at a multiple crossroads near Beauvilliers.

No signposts

(2) Leave the GRP® and take the path on the left that descends towards the D928. Cross carefully and follow the access road to La Richardière (D125.1) opposite.

(3) At La Richardière (pond), continue straight ahead for about 300 metres until you reach the first straight path on the right.

(4) Take this path and descend gently to the Vallée des Chaises, a deep drainage stream.

(5) Follow the valley to the left and you will reach a small road.

(6) Turn right and walk past the Ferme du Romphaye. Continue along this road, which passes in front of La Touche (lodge), and continue to the entrance gate of the Château de la Hallière. (In winter, you can see the chapel of Château de la Hallière above the park walls, near which members of the family, who have owned the property since the Revolution, are buried.)

(7) Pass in front of the gates of Château de la Hallière, continue along the buildings and follow the path opposite which leads into the fields. Cross the Vallée des Chaises stream via a ford, which is usually dry. Follow the path to La Richardière.

(3) At La Richardière, turn left at the crossroads. Follow the road to the D928. Cross it carefully and take the path opposite to go up to the crossroads near Beauvilliers, which you passed earlier.

No markings

(2) Continue straight ahead and go around Beauvilliers on the right. The path climbs then turns right and arrives at Bois Ridon.

(8) At the crossroads, turn right and carefully follow the road to the right (D24) on the wide hard shoulder. Ignore the first road on the left and continue to the second. Cross carefully and head towards the farm on the left.

(9) At the farm entrance, take the path on the right and continue across the fields. Carefully cross a road (D30) and continue straight ahead to the first houses in Mille Champs. Continue to the crossroads.

(10) Turn right and continue to the next crossroads to rejoin the GRP®.

Yellow and red markings

(11) Continue to the right and follow Rue de Mille Champs to Digny. Walk along the public garden and turn left. Pass in front of the town hall. Note the beautiful door between the church and the town hall and the information panel about the passage of the2nd Armoured Division in August 1944. Arrive at Place Saint-Germain in front of the church (S/E).

(2) Option to shorten the route by 1.7 km:
Follow the yellow and red markings, turning right and taking the same path you took on the way there to reach Digny Church (S/E).

Wear good waterproof shoes, as the paths can be muddy.

During hunting season, follow the instructions given by hunters.

This route passes through farmland. Take care if you encounter work in the fields and try not to get in the way. Remember that farmers are working while you are out walking. A quick wave or a few words exchanged will help maintain good relations.
