Parking is available at Saint-Sébastien Chapel on the heights of Dambach-la-Ville. Access to the car park is via Rue de Blienschwiller, then follow the signs. The chapel can be visited at the start or end of the walk.
(S/E) Head south, with your back to the chapel, towards Le Sentier Viticole, which is not signposted. Along the way, this section is also known as Chemin des Vignes. Beautiful views of Dambach, the vineyards and the plain. Continue to the crossroads.
(1) Turn right onto the path marked with a yellow cross. Continue to the next crossroads.
(2) There are two options:
- either continue straight ahead, following the path marked with a yellow cross, for direct access to the castle.
- or, which is the purpose of this circular, turn left onto the path marked with a yellow disc. From this point, the altitude rises from 310 m to 581 m in 2 km. You will reach a fork in the path.
(3) Keep to the right to stay on the yellow disc marked trail and continue to the Krieghurst crossroads, where there is a bench for taking a break.
(4) Take the path on the right after the one you took previously: the signposts are on the tree 10 m opposite the bench. The path to take is theGR®5marked with a red rectangle, towards Bernstein Castle. Along the way, a spring accessible by a path is indicated 50 m to the right. Reach the crossroads at the foot of the castle.
(5) You can stop for a picnic at the tables located here. Turn right to enter the castle grounds and visit the inner courtyard and tower.
(6) Turn back and return to the crossroads.
(5) Follow the blue disc marked trail to the left, cross a forest track and continue straight ahead.
(7) On the descent, pass by the remarkable Bibelefelsen rock and continue. You will come to the Red Cross marked path. Continue to the right, following the double markings to reach the chapel (S/E).
