Circular route through the woods of Izeaux to La Combe Noire

Circular walk through pleasantly wooded countryside along a slightly stony dirt track; trainers or walking boots are recommended for greater comfort. A mix of woodland and meadows where cows graze peacefully. A soothing and easy walk.

Description of the walk

By car, leave Izeaux heading towards the Fortress; park directly opposite a small road leading to Saint-Paul-d’Izeaux, next to a young walnut grove, marked by a yellow marker on a post.

(S/E) Take the dirt track, continuing straight on at each junction until you reach the edge of a wood.

(1) Take the path on the right, marked with yellow signs; this is the Chemin de Fond Froide. Walk alongside woodland on the right and meadows on the left. You’ll reach a fork with a yellow sign: Combe Noire 550 m. Stay on this path until you reach a five-way junction at a place called La Combe Noire.

(2) Take the path furthest to the left, at almost 180°. Leave the yellow markings here. Follow a path through the woods, running parallel to the outward route, to return to the original crossroads you passed on the way out.

(1) Continue along the path you took on the way out to return to the car park on the small road (S/E).
