Description of the walk

Departure from the central square (tourist office) in Yzeron.

(S/E) From the central square (tourist office), head towards Thurins (D25).
Opposite the town hall, turn right and head up towards Le Planil. At the first crossroads, turn left until you reach the junction with Route de Thurins.

(1) Cross the road and climb up opposite towards Rocher de Py Froid.
At the end of the tarmac road, there are two ways to reach the rock. I chose to continue straight up to the climbing area.

(2) After heading right towards the granite boulders, where you can admire the view, retrace your steps and take the path on the right towards Châteauvieux.
The path descends gently to the hamlet and the first house, where you will find the tarmac road.

(3) At the crossroads, turn left and continue to the chapel (open on Sunday afternoons only). From the square, you can enjoy another beautiful view of the Lyon metropolitan area.
Continue along the road, then along a path towards the dolmen.

(4) Continue along the path that descends towards Saint-Laurent de Vaux. Leave the path to Izeron on your left. At the first house, you will find a road that you will follow downhill to the crossroads.

(5) Take the second right, and after the bend, leave the path that climbs up on your right. A little further on, on your left, there is a picnic area with toilets. Follow the path on the left, then head towards "Combe Fusil" until you reach the church.

(6) Take the street directly opposite the church. Soon, you will come to a path that descends towards a road.

(7) Immediately turn right. After 80 metres, take the path that climbs to the left; it winds through the vegetation and then opens onto a meadow. Continue straight ahead. You will then find a path that takes you to Clavigny.

(8) When you reach the Yzeron road, turn left for about 200 metres and then turn left onto a small downhill street. Just after the stream, take the path on your right that goes up to Les Arnauds.
At the first house, you will find a road which you follow to the junction with the D489.

(9) Cross the road and climb towards Izeron. Pass the hamlet of Les Arnauds. The slope is quite steep and long (especially when you are out in the open) but you will enjoy some lovely views. Continue towards Izeron until you reach the sign for "Les Rivoires".

(10) Descend to the left towards La Brally ("Les Roches"). At the hamlet, cross the D489 road, go down the stairs and take the street on the right towards Les Roches. At the last houses in Les Roches, continue along the path.

(11) After about 400 metres, at the fork, go up to the right towards a place called La Cascade.

(12) Cross the bridge (or wade through the stream if you want to cool off) and head towards the road.
Climb the road to the entrance of the village. Turn left. At the next intersection, turn right and then take the small path on the left that will take you back to your starting point (S/E).

Beautiful views of Lyon and the Monts du Lyonnais. We did the route in the opposite direction to the guidebook, starting from Saint Laurent de Vaux. This avoids having to drive up to Yzeron. Walking time: 3½ hours.

We did this hike backwards because we couldn't find the start... despite having GPS.
There are quite a few climbs, but I imagine it's easier in the right direction.
Make sure you wear good shoes because there are a lot of stony paths.
I was disappointed because there were a lot of crossings on the road from Vaugneray to Izeron. No beautiful views.

I got lost and ended up walking 27 km in total. I'll do it again when I've got a better handle on your site

A pleasant walk with beautiful scenery, very enjoyable despite a few rather inconsiderate motorcyclists.
The walk took 2½ hours (not including the snack break).

a very beautiful hike in cool, pleasant weather. (Beautiful view of the Monts du Lyonnais and Lyon.) The first part is very popular with mountain bikers. The hike is between 12 and 13 kilometres long, not 15/16 kilometres as stated in a comment

A superb walk, but we think the distance of 12.39 km is underestimated. We arrived closer to 15/16 km and I don't think we were wrong.

Departure at 11:00 a.m., return at 5:15 p.m. Beautiful weather, slightly foggy. We spent a lot of time chatting!
A fairly shaded walk with a few views of the Rhône valley. The end of the La Brally and Yzeron walk is very pleasant.

A beautiful country walk with views of the Lyon metropolitan area. Partly shaded and partly sunny. Steep climbs, sometimes a little steep, but never very long. Duration: 3½ hours, including a half-hour break.

Almost perfect! I had a doubt at the top, in section (8): after the arnauds, at the top of the hill, there is a crossroads and it is not easy to understand where to go before Les Rivoires (the sign for Les Rivoires is still very far after the crossroads).

hike done on Sunday, 14 October 2018 in the sunshine
thank you for the very nice route. We started (and finished) in Saint-Laurent-de-Vaux, which allowed us to stop for coffee on the terrace in Yzeron halfway through.

Thanks for the walk. I wanted to take it easy with about 600 metres of elevation gain not far from Lyon. The circular and the description are very good.
