Departure from the central square (tourist office) in Yzeron.
(S/E) From the central square (tourist office), head towards Thurins (D25).
Opposite the town hall, turn right and head up towards Le Planil. At the first crossroads, turn left until you reach the junction with Route de Thurins.
(1) Cross the road and climb up opposite towards Rocher de Py Froid.
At the end of the tarmac road, there are two ways to reach the rock. I chose to continue straight up to the climbing area.
(2) After heading right towards the granite boulders, where you can admire the view, retrace your steps and take the path on the right towards Châteauvieux.
The path descends gently to the hamlet and the first house, where you will find the tarmac road.
(3) At the crossroads, turn left and continue to the chapel (open on Sunday afternoons only). From the square, you can enjoy another beautiful view of the Lyon metropolitan area.
Continue along the road, then along a path towards the dolmen.
(4) Continue along the path that descends towards Saint-Laurent de Vaux. Leave the path to Izeron on your left. At the first house, you will find a road that you will follow downhill to the crossroads.
(5) Take the second right, and after the bend, leave the path that climbs up on your right. A little further on, on your left, there is a picnic area with toilets. Follow the path on the left, then head towards "Combe Fusil" until you reach the church.
(6) Take the street directly opposite the church. Soon, you will come to a path that descends towards a road.
(7) Immediately turn right. After 80 metres, take the path that climbs to the left; it winds through the vegetation and then opens onto a meadow. Continue straight ahead. You will then find a path that takes you to Clavigny.
(8) When you reach the Yzeron road, turn left for about 200 metres and then turn left onto a small downhill street. Just after the stream, take the path on your right that goes up to Les Arnauds.
At the first house, you will find a road which you follow to the junction with the D489.
(9) Cross the road and climb towards Izeron. Pass the hamlet of Les Arnauds. The slope is quite steep and long (especially when you are out in the open) but you will enjoy some lovely views. Continue towards Izeron until you reach the sign for "Les Rivoires".
(10) Descend to the left towards La Brally ("Les Roches"). At the hamlet, cross the D489 road, go down the stairs and take the street on the right towards Les Roches. At the last houses in Les Roches, continue along the path.
(11) After about 400 metres, at the fork, go up to the right towards a place called La Cascade.
(12) Cross the bridge (or wade through the stream if you want to cool off) and head towards the road.
Climb the road to the entrance of the village. Turn left. At the next intersection, turn right and then take the small path on the left that will take you back to your starting point (S/E).
