Coming from the Rhône valley, head towards Pélussin. Then head towards the Col de l'Œillon, passing through the small pass of Doizieux, known for its inn and car park for hikers. Continue towards the Col de l'Œillon and, on your left, you will see a car park for hikers and the Parc de Pilat Aventure. Park in this car park.
(S/E) Leave the car park and take the forest road that descends slightly towards the Parc Pilat Aventure, passing close to the Chapelle de la Magdelaine (where masses are held from time to time), and stay on the forest path.
(1) Leave the forest road and take the path that climbs gently to the right. On this route, you also have the option of passing by the Trois Dents, but for this hike, we will pass below them.
(2) Keep to the right, leaving the path on the left, go around the Trois Dents in a wide curve to the right and continue straight ahead until you reach an intersection.
(3) Continue right on the path that climbs up to the Col du Gratteau viewpoint.
(4) Take the opportunity to admire the view and enjoy a short break. Leave the car park and head towards the Col de l'Œillon. Be careful, just as you leave the car park, take the path on your right which climbs through the broom and a few blueberry bushes, a well-marked path on the ground. Follow it, pass higher up at the foot of the tower, admire the view of the Trois Dents and, further on, rejoin the marked Trois Dents trail. Turn left towards Col de l'Œillon and you will come out onto the departmental road.
(5) Cross it with caution. Opposite, there are two trailheads: take the one furthest to the left, which climbs through the fir trees. Stay on this trail, crossing the road, and continue to the Crêt de l'Œillon car park. Head towards the burnt hotel and Crêt de l'Œillon. Pass to the left of the antenna: you can also pass to the right, as both paths lead to the orientation table just behind.
(6) Take the path on the left that descends, cross the unstable scree (be careful), and arrive at the bottom to find a marked path. Turn left, pass the paragliding take-off point, continue on this path and arrive at the burnt hotel. Continue straight ahead on the ridge (view of the Gier valley) and arrive at Trève du Loup.
(7) Turn right towards Chaux de la Madeleine and you will soon reach a forest path. Turn left and stay on this path until you reach a fork.
(8) Take the path that descends to the right until you reach another forest road further down.
(9) Turn right towards Col de l'Œillon, then take the first path on the left which descends, still through the woods, and leads back to the Parc de Pilat Aventure car park (S/E).
Take care in strong winds or gusts. Then rejoin the trail at point 5. Beautiful views of the Rhône valley in a mountain setting.
