Start in front of the Town Hall on Rue Principale in Saulxures.
(S/E) With your back to the car park, head right towards the left-hand bend and follow the Red Ring markings which pass in front of St Michel’s Church. Go round the church on the right and turn left towards the cemetery. Follow Rue des Écoles, still marked with the Red Ring. Ignore the next streets on the right and left and continue along this road until you reach the village exit, then for about 200 m past the exit sign.
(1) Turn right onto Chemin de la Procession, then turn right again onto the path marked with the Red Ring and Yellow Rectangle (GR®532). After a left-hand bend followed by a right-hand bend, you will come to another left-hand bend.
(2) Leave Chemin de la Procession, which branches off to the right, and continue round the bend to the left. Pass a reservoir; at the junction, continue straight on following the Red Ring and, after a right-hand bend, join Rue du Long Bas.
(3) Follow this street to the left, then, as you approach a high-voltage power line, turn right onto the next path, which is still marked with the Red Ring. It leads tothe GR® 532, marked with a Yellow Rectangle.
(4) Follow it to the right until the next junction. Leave theGR® and follow the path marked with a Red Ring to the left. At the next bend, ignore the path branching off to the left and continue to the right to reach the D424 opposite the health centre.
(5) Follow the D424 for a few metres to the left and turn right (marked with a Red Ring). The path enters the forest and reaches a junction.
(6) Turn right again to reach the hamlet of Goutrangoutte a little further on. Once on Rue de la Besse, follow it to the left to the end of the hamlet, then follow Impasse des Écureuils, which branches off to the right, to join a path, still marked with the Red Ring, heading towards La Croix des Champs at the junction on the D424.
(7) Follow the D424 to the left for a few metres, then turn left again onto Chemin Basse des Champs. A little further on, at the junction, you can continue straight ahead along the path marked with a Red Cross to the Chapel of Bénaville (30 minutes round trip). Alternatively, continue to the right along the Red Ring-marked path to the junction as you approach the forest.
(8) Leave the path on your left, which also leads to the Bénaville Chapel, and continue right into the forest. The path soon turns right, then a few hundred metres further on to the left, rejoining the D424.
(9) Cross the road – take care – and continue along the path opposite, following the same markings. After about a hundred metres, turn right towards the south, pass under a high-voltage power line and then a second one, then turn right towards the west to join the D192 (Rue des Côtes).
(10) Turn left, cross the bridge, then at the junction, follow Rue Principale to the right, which takes you back to Saulxures Town Hall and the car park where you started (S/E).
