Circular route around Novéant-sur-Moselle

Park at the Post Office car park (former Novéant-sur-Moselle station).

(S/E) Take the path below and go under the railway line to reach the banks of the Moselle. Turn right and continue along the river, then follow the old canal via the cycle path. Cross the canal and continue to follow the canal along the opposite bank to La Grande Saussaie and the old Arnaville lock.

(1) Cross the canal again, pass the old lock-keeper’s house and go under the railway line. Continue straight on along Rue de l’Ancienne Douane until you reach the A-road from Novéant (D91). Turn left and follow Rue de Novéant to the Arnaville–Pagny junction. Turn left towards Pagny, cross the Rupt du Mad.

(2) Turn right onto Chemin de la Gare just before the railway bridge and continue along this path beside the Rupt du Mad stream, keeping to the right until you reach the second footbridge.

(3) Cross the stream and head straight up to the Grande Rue. Turn right onto this street and after 50m, turn left and head up towards the church via Rue de la Halle.

(4) Walk past the church and continue to the right. (Follow the “Nancy-Metz” signposts.) Continue along the church garden and stay on this wide path for 1.5 km, passing orchards and vineyards, until you reach the entrance to Novéant.

(5) Walk down Rue Godmay to Rue de la Louvière. Turn right, then left onto Rue de la Halle. Continue straight along this street, passing the wash house.

(6) Cross the Ruisseau de la Gorzia and, at the town hall, turn left onto Rue de la République. After 50 m, turn right onto Rue du Clou and head up to Rue des Alliés (D12).

(7) Cross the D12 and continue straight up Rue du Clou to the Clou junction.

(8) Turn left and continue straight on until you reach the “Les Fleuries” three-way junction.

(9) Take the path leading uphill to the right and continue climbing for 2.6 km to the three-way junction at Croix Saint-Clément, following the Yellow Rectangle.

(10) Turn right and follow this wide path downhill to the Croix Rondo on the heights of Dornot.

(11) Turn right at the cross and continue straight on this path until you reach Novéant (Rue André Bellard).

(12) Turn right and after 50m, turn left between two houses onto a small path that will take you to the main street of Novéant (Rue Foch, D6).

(13) Cross the main street and head back to the car park of the old station on the left (S/E).

Autumn is a lovely time of year for plums, grapes, apples, pears and quinces all along the route.
