Circular route around La Géline

A pleasant circular walk through the woodland around La Géline. You’ll pass through La Montjoie, follow theGR® 101 and one of its variants, and walk past Tarasteix Abbey. Descend back towards La Géline, then climb back up via Sarluzen. Another descent and ascent to visit Castet Crabé, followed by a final kilometre to wind down gently. It’s also an ideal route for a 3 h 30 min to 3 h 45 min Nordic walking session.

Description of the walk

Setting off from Oursbelille, after the sports grounds, park your car by the last houses along the Allée de la Montjoie.

(S/E) At the foot of the hill, take the road heading due west towards Pintac. After 100 m, leave the road and head up to the right, following a very steep little path to La Montjoie.

(1) Continue to the right, heading due north, for 300 m, then turn left at a right angle to join theGR® 101.

(2) Turn right, then left, and keep left again, following theGR® 101 downhill for 3 km. Cross the Géline once, then turn right to follow the edge of the Grand Bois.

(3) Cross the D168 and continue straight on, then turn left after 300 m. Once at the top of the hill, turn right. You will now pass above the Abbaye Notre-Dame de l’Espérance, then continue to the right along the D27 for approximately 300 m.

(4) Leave theGR® 101 and continue downhill along the D27. Reach the bridge over the Géline and continue for about 100 m.

(5) Turn right, keep to the left, then turn left again onto the path which climbs up through the Mourèles palm groves. Head left for about 300 m to reach the ridge leading to Sarluzen.

(6) Turn right at the fork and head uphill along the edge of the forest until you reach the crossroads after Pétrille.

(7) Continue left along the road down towards Le Cathie and, after the first turn right then left, cross the Arriouet.

(8) Just after crossing, at elevation 288, head up to the left along a fairly steep path to reach a branch ofthe GR® 101 and follow it to the right to go round Castet Crabé to the west. You’ll come to a fork.

(9) Turn left, heading east, to visit this historic site. Then head down south/south-east to the right, then straight on, until you reach a fork at elevation 278.

(10) Turn right, heading due south, and walk for about 600 m.

(11) Turn right, then left, and continue south to reach the Allée de la Montjoie (S/E).

I can’t load the GPX track using Basecamp and MapSource. An “unknown error” is displayed.
Kind regards.
