Circular route to the south-west of Connangles via Pissis and Intranges

The route passes through beautiful, shaded forest tracks and crosses seven villages surrounded by areas dedicated to livestock farming. The route is dotted with remarkable trees and magnificent high forests. The thick-walled houses, built of granite, are a reminder of the harsh climate of the Cassadean plateau.

Description of the walk

The walk starts from the village of Connangles, accessible via the D19 Brioude/La Chaise-Dieu. Car park at the bottom of the village of Connangles, on the D20.

(S/E) Follow the D20 via Rue du Couvent, then take Rue de la Mairie on the left and pass the hamlet of Chales.

(1) At the junction near the hamlet, turn right towards Mouret. Ignore La Faurie on the left.

(2) In Mouret, ignore all the paths to the right and left; go straight ahead and cross the hamlet heading south-west. Cross the Ruisseau de Pissis and head towards the hamlet of Pissis.

(3) Cross the hamlet; at the square, on leaving the village, at the crossroads, turn right towards Les Giroux.

(4) Cross the hamlet (Route de Badou) and, at the junction on the way out, turn right onto Chemin des Sagnes, heading towards Barlière.

(5) Ford the Barlière and continue to the right, towards Barlière. Ignore the paths on the left and other tracks, which are logging tracks. Pass Barlière and arrive at a junction.

(6) Turn left at the hairpin bend towards Intranges.

(7) Enter Intranges via Rue des Combes, then turn right onto Rue de la Garde, and, upon reaching the wayside shrine, take Rue Sainte Reine on the left. Continue due north towards Vieilleguerre.

(8) At the junction near the water tower, turn right, follow the track, pass the Domaine de Vieilleguerre, then veer right to continue walking through the forest towards Connangles.

(9) At the entrance to the village, cross Rue de la Vieille Forge, then Rue du Charron, and take the steps to reach Rue du Couvent. Turn left towards the car park (S/E).
