Departure from the car park known as "du grand tournant", located in a hairpin bend on the D17, between two stream crossings. N.B. In summer, it is best to arrive early as this car park fills up quickly.
(S/E) Head north on a path towards Col de Cabre, passing a shed on your right. Climb through the undergrowth.
(1) At the T-junction, turn right. Ignore a path on the left and climb through the woods, heading north-east. Continue in open terrain, crossing a few streams.
(2) At an intersection, continue straight ahead (east, then east-northeast). Climb up a slope, which becomes increasingly steep, to Col de Cabre (close the gate behind you if it was already closed).
(3) Take the first path on the right, heading south, and cross directly below Puy de Bataillouse, located on the left. Leave Col de la Rombière on your left and continue south. Pass a small hill (elevation 1549) and descend to quickly reach a crossroads (upper station of the Rombière chairlift on the left.
(4) Take thesecond trail on the right, heading south-west (GR®). Cross over and climb slightly to reach a fork at the foot of Puy Griou.
(5) There are two options here.
- To climb Puy Griou, follow the "Puy Griou from Les Chazes" hike from its starting point (5). Then descend back to the fork.
- As shown on the map, go around Puy Griou on the right and descend heading west, then west-southwest.
(6) At the next fork, bear left, heading due south. Ignore a path on the left and you will reach a crossroads.
(7) Take the first path on the left and follow the GR®400 (red and white markings) through the woods and slightly downhill. This will take you to the Col de Gliziou.
(8) Take the second path on the right, heading due west. Ignore a path on the right and head west-southwest.
(9) At a fork, leave the GR® and take the path on the right towards Mandailles. Descend a stony section, then into the forest.
(10) At an intersection, turn right. After about 75 metres, turn left (north-northeast). Ignore the paths on the right and descend. Then head northwest and continue descending.
(11) You will join the GR®400, and follow it to the right (red and white markings).
(12) At an intersection, leave the GR® and turn right. Cross a stream via a footbridge and continue downhill. After a left turn, you will rejoin the tarmac road in the hamlet of Liadouze.
(13) Follow the small road to the right. At the fork shortly afterwards, keep to the right and climb slightly up a pleasant shaded path. Stay north-east on the main marked path and ignore the side paths.
(14) At a three-way junction, bear left.
(15) Further on, cross the Jordanne river via a small wooden bridge. Then climb up a steep path through the woods, following the green markings. This will take you back to the car park at the big bend (S/E).
