Description of the walk

Park near the town hall in Mulbach-sur-Bruche: parking spaces are limited. Other parking is available at the Urmatt sports complex. Start the hike at (2).

(S/E) Head towards the church and turn right. Pass in front of the school and you will come to a three-way junction.

(1) Turn left then right to avoid the dead end. Continue along the Route des Romains and stay on it until you reach the intersection with the path leading to Urmatt and the sports complex.

(2) Turn right, walk about 60 metres, then turn right again onto the forest road that goes uphill, marked with a yellow rectangle. You will come to a Y-junction.

(3) Turn right, keeping to the yellow rectangle and following the sign for "Grendelbruch via Hahnenberg". You will reach another fork in the road.

(4) Leave the yellow rectangle markings, which lead directly up to Hahnenberg (possible alternative route, +150 m elevation gain), and follow the path marked with a yellow rectangle crossed out in white, which goes around it on the right: there are numerous viewpoints along the way.

(5) At the intersection, leave the path that branches off to the right and continue left on the forest road. You will reach another fork.

(6) Leave the path that climbs to the left towards Hahnenberg and continue along the forest road until you reach Grendelbruch stadium.

(7) Take the road that leads straight to the stadium: yellow rectangle markings. Pass a viewpoint overlooking the village of Grendelbruch and reach a crossroads near the D204.

(8) First turn right then left to go around the field, return to the D204 and follow it carefully to the right for a few dozen metres.

(9) Turn right onto the path marked by a sign, which descends along the Muhlbach: yellow disc markings.

(10) When you reach the intersection, follow the path that climbs up opposite towards the Vierge de Muhlbach: viewpoint.

(11) Take the path that descends opposite along the forest, then the small path on the left and rejoin the fork you passed at the start.

(1) Continue to the left to return to the church and town hall (S/E).

Difficult to find the markings if you take the opposite route. Lots of tarmac at the start and end. Good route for winter.
