Description of the walk

Park at the foot of the Mirandol viaduct.

(S/E) Go under the viaduct and take the bridge over the Chassezac towards Le Mas. Follow the road through the village of Mirandol for about 100 metres.
Leave the main road and take the signposted path on the right for about 100 metres.

(1) At the crossroads, take the path on the right and continue until you reach the railway line, which you will follow to the village of L'Estampe.

(2) Join the D120 road that crosses the village and follow it to the left for about 100 metres.

(3) Ignore the return path on the left and continue along the road for a short distance until you reach a barrier on the left.

(4) Take the path until you reach another barrier at the edge of a road (D120).

(5) Cross the road carefully and take the path opposite, which leads into the Goulet forest.

(6) Stay on the main path on the left and continue climbing until you reach another path.

(7) Take this path on the right and descend gently into the forest until you reach a fork.

(8) Turn right and take this new path, which will take you back to the intersection you passed earlier.

(6) Follow the same route as on the way up, descend to the road, cross it and take the path behind the barrier; at the second barrier below, continue along the road for about 100 metres until you reach a path on the right.

(3) Turn right onto this path and continue through the forest until you reach the intersection you passed at the start of the hike.

(1) Take the path you came on in the opposite direction to return to the car park under the Mirandol viaduct (S/E).

Practical information

With the exception of the Mirandol-L'Estampe section at the start, the rest of the hike is in the woods, which is very pleasant in summer. The hike explores the northern foothills of the Goulet mountain, above the villages of L'Estampe and Daufage. There is a fountain at the bottom of the village of L'Estampe.

In the nearby area

The Mirandol viaduct at the start of the hike is a major engineering structure on the Mende-La Bastide railway line. It rises to a maximum height of 30 m and crosses the Chassezac River, which flows into the Rhône downstream.
