Description of the walk

You can park just before the Canadian Pass at the entrance to Campodonico, or along the road before arriving, as parking within the village is reserved for residents.

(S/E) The route starts from the Canadian gate. Enter the village and follow the signs on the left indicating several walks. Open and remember to close the black gate giving access to the walks: you need to pull the handle firmly. Walk a few dozen metres and follow a small wooden sign on the right indicating San Petrone.

(1) At the junction, take the path on the left and ignore the path climbing up to the right.

(2) Go through the gate, remembering to close it behind you, and continue along the path until you reach a three-way junction.

(3) Take the path on the right, towards Bocca Favalta and San Petrone: the path descending to the left is the return route for the circular path. Continue climbing until you reach a signposted junction.

(4) Turn left towards Bocca Favalta and San Petrone and reach the top of the pass.

(5) Head left towards Bocca di Favalta and ignore the path on the right which climbs towards San Petrone. Continue towards Punta Ventosa, following the ridges. You will reach Bocca al Prato, where you will find some buildings: sheepfolds, or a few ruined shelters.

(6) Head left: it can be difficult to find the path marked with cairns and orange markings when the vegetation is taller in spring. So be careful and don’t hesitate to use your GPS for guidance.

(7) Walk past the old sheepfold called "Prato", then head down to the left towards the small renovated house, with solar panels on the rear façade, called "Casa Nico". Head down towards the ruined shelters built amongst the rocks.

(8) Continue to the right, following the path and the cairns. The path shown on the IGN map no longer exists; you must follow a new path, marked in orange.

(9) The path descends to the right, on the other side of the pass, and enters a forest. It is very stony, so you must follow the numerous orange markings painted on the tree trunks.

(10) Take the path on the left and continue the descent. After a short climb, rejoin the ascent path: a sign marked with a Black Cross can serve as a landmark.

(3) Head right to retrace the section of the outward journey in the opposite direction. Go through the gates and return to your vehicle after the Canadian crossing (S/E).
