Description of the walk

The departure of the route starts at Bollwiller Castle, Rue des Acacias. There are plenty of parking spaces available along the street.

(S/E) Facing the castle, turn left. Take the first street on the left, lined with plane trees, and follow the green disc markings. Then take the first street on the right, which is a dead end. At the end, cross the Lohbach stream via a small metal bridge. Continue straight ahead until you reach the stop sign.

(1) Turn right towards the town centre. Pass in front of the town hall, then at the roundabout, take the leftmost lane onto the D429 towards Pulversheim. Pass in front of Saint-Charles Church and its foyer. Ignore Rue du Bosquet and, a little further on, continue straight ahead on Rue de la Gare. When you come to a fork in the road, take the left-hand path and continue to the opposite end of the bus station. Just before the railway tracks, turn right onto a narrow path behind a building.

(2) At the end of this path, stop following the signs and continue straight ahead towards the sports complex on Rue Lafer. Then take the first street on the right and the next on the left. Continue to the roundabout.

(3) Turn right and go to the end of this street, which leads towards the Vosges. At the stop sign, turn left. Now follow the red disc markings.

(4) Cross the road carefully at the first pedestrian crossing and turn right onto a bridge over the Lohbach stream. Turn right again after the bridge. When the road ends, go through a barrier and take a hairpin turn to the left.

(5) At the next T-junction, turn right and at the next T-junction, turn right towards Soultz and follow the red triangle markings.

(6) At the stop sign, turn right and then immediately left, where you will find a wayside cross and a picnic table. Just before reaching a house, turn right onto a dirt track. Cross the Wuenheim stream and walk along the village towards a relay antenna, in the direction of the Vosges. Walk past the foot of the antenna and continue to the end of the path.

(7) At the T-junction, where there is an information board, ignore the signposts and turn right. When you reach the departmental road, turn right at the "Give Way" sign.

(8) Carefully cross the road at the first pedestrian crossing and turn left into the first street, Chemin d'Issenheim. Continue along this street as it curves slightly to the left and, just before leaving the village and crossing a small stream, turn right to follow it along a dead-end dirt track.

(9) At the next bridge, turn right and follow the green disc markings again, via Chemin de l'Herbe, towards Bollwiller Gare. Finally, take the fourth street on the left, Rue des Acacias. After ignoring the junction with Rue des Tulipes, walk along a small park with playground equipment and benches and you will find yourself back at the castle and your starting point (S/E).

Worth a visit

Located at the starting point (S/E), Bollwiller Castle was built in the 12th century. Today, it is part of a medical-educational institute run by the Papillons Blancs association.

If it is open, the imposing high altar of Saint Charles Church is worth a look.

Shortly after passing the relay antenna, you will see blockhouses in the field on your right.
