Description of the walk

Instructions for use

  • Eight slates are placed along the route.
  • Scan the QR code on the slate with your mobile phone.
  • Listen to the podcast on the spot or as you walk to the next stage.
  • You can listen on loudspeakers, headphones or a connected loudspeaker to enjoy listening together.

The recommended car park is on Rue Aimé Richardeau, Hôtel Dieu car park, by the access to the crèche. A smaller, but closer, car park is located Place des Victoires, in front of the town hall: this is the choice of route.

(S/E) Opposite the town hall, take the alleyway leading to Rue des Halles.

(1) Scan the slate under the Halles, on the Rue des Halles side: podcast 1. Then turn left into Place des Douves, along the troglodyte dwellings until you reach Rue Paul-Louis Courier. Turn right, then immediately left, into Rue de l'Alma, towards Moulin Hodoux, around 2 km away.

(2) Turn right into Rue de la Chantepleure, the return route, and go straight on past the cemetery. Enter through the entrance above, on the right. Take the second alley on the left to reach Louis Rimbault's grave, which is the eighth on the right: podcast 2.

(3) Leave the cemetery and continue up the steep but short slope, which soon skirts a vineyard with a remarkable vineyard lodge. About 250 m along on the left, a sign provides some information about the Château de Luynes. Go past the Moulin Doré (an old windmill) and walk along fields for around 100 metres.

(4) Leave the downhill road and turn left at right-angles onto a hedge-bordered path. Slate at the corner of the path: podcast 3. Stay on this path as it passes through various hedges, fields and meadows, offering a fine view to the west before descending to the road: podcast 4.

(5) Turn right, walk alongside an apiary on the right and reach a crossroads.

(6) Take the road to the right, continuing towards Moulin Hodoux. Go past Les Planches and continue along the dead-end road to Moulin Hodoux: podcast 5.

(7) Immediately afterwards, take a narrow path to the left, between two pillars, going under the trees. Cross three footbridges, then follow a stream to the right, before quickly reaching the road. Turn right and then, at the sign for "Le Vieux Bourg", follow the path to the right (yellow markings). Reach podcast 6.

(8) Continue along the track and, at the end, turn right onto the road. Go past the Moulin à Tan, then over a small bridge, followed by two others.

(9) Turn left onto a good track alongside a horse pasture: podcast 7.

(10) After a right-hand bend, before the road, take a grass track on the right towards a wood. Go deep into the undergrowth, up a lovely shady slope: podcast 8. Pass a large fenced property.

(11) Before a small clearing, take a well-marked downhill path to the left, along a ditch to the right, as far as the road (D49). Turn right and follow the road for around 300m. After the bus stop, turn left towards the hamlet of Le Pin (sign visible on the other side). Climb to the top of the hill to see the Terre Libérée landscape (house and land). Descend a few dozen metres to the entrance on the left of a field managed by the association "L'Autre Terre Libérée", where you can take a break and have a picnic.

(12) Leave the field and head back downhill, immediately after which take a more or less mown track on the left that runs through fields and wasteland towards Luynes. After a bend to the right, the track becomes passable, between beautiful hedges where the competition of birdsong is in full swing. Rejoin the road.

(13) Turn left, then immediately right, into Rue du Petit Verger, towards the houses with their well-treed gardens on a footpath that leads down to a set of traffic lights next to the schools.

(14) Cross over at the pedestrian crossing and take the Rue du Général de Gaulle opposite. At the end, turn left into Rue Victor Hugo and join the main road. Ignore this road and immediately turn right into Rue de la Chantepleure, back onto Rue de l'Alma, the road you came from.

(2) Turn left and repeat the outward journey, in the opposite direction, to reach the Halles and then the Place des Victoires car park (S/E)
