Park in the car park at the Maison de la Culture et des Arts (MAC), Rue du Moulin.
This route can be walked in either direction.
(S/E) If you follow the route in the direction shown on the map, turn right onto Rue du Moulin as you leave the car park, then turn right onto Impasse de la Fontaine and walk past the square fountain (built around 1850).
(1) Then turn right onto Rue de la Mairie and continue to the right to cross the bridge over the Durgeon.
NB: near the bridge, next to the ‘Fontaine aux Ânes’, in a disused bus shelter, the Foyer Rural de Mailleroncourt-Charette has set up a book box.
Just after the bridge, the road splits into two.
(2) Take the narrower right-hand fork until you reach a metal fountain. There, turn right onto the Chemin des Grands Regains. This tarmac road is rarely used by motorists, but do be careful: some people do drive fast, or even very fast!
Follow this road to the end and turn right to cross a bridge where you’ll rejoin the Durgeon.
(3) At the next junction, turn right, then, at the three-way junction shortly afterwards, turn left towards Vilory. After about 300 metres, turn right onto a farm track leading to the Bois de Chanadin, which you cross from one end to the other. There is a short climb (about 40 metres in elevation) which presents no particular difficulty.
The path can be a little slippery on the final part of the descent, especially in wet weather or after showers.
On leaving the woods, the track joins the road from Mailleroncourt-Charette to Vilory, a small local access road with little traffic.
(4) Turn right and follow the road to the village. On the right, you can see the tower of the old castle.
(5) At the crossroads at the entrance to the village, carry on straight ahead along the Grande Rue (D14), then turn right into the Rue du Moulin to reach the MAC (S/E).
Enjoy your walk!
