Description of the walk

Salle des Iris car park.

(S/E) Walk up Rue des Iris towards Rue Principale. At the stop sign, turn right towards the town hall. Near the town hall, turn left onto Rue des Fourneaux and follow the road to the crossroads. Turn right until you see the "point de vue" sign. From here, you can admire the Château de Bessay and its Renaissance tower

(1) After your break, continue along the road until you reach the stop sign.

(2) Cross the road carefully towards Rue du Pontet. At the crossroads, turn right into Rue du Gué and walk up to Le Coteau.

(3) You are now at Logis du Coteau: you will find information on page 6 of your booklet. The owner, who is passionate about history and the area, offers guided tours at 10:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. The owners kindly allow visitors to pass through and visit their property at the times mentioned above. Please take care of the premises and respect them.
At the end of the tour, take the road in front of you until you reach the "viewpoint" sign. Turn around and admire the landscape. Head back down towards Logis du Coteau, then take Chemin de la Smagne on your right. Keep left at the fork and continue along the road, staying more or less parallel to the Smagne river. Turn left at the roundabout and continue to the old Mainclaye bridge (see page 7 of your booklet for more information).

(4) Retrace your steps to the roundabout, then take Rue du Moulin on your left. Continue to the wash house on the left (information on page 8 of your booklet).

(5) Continue on your way by turning left further on, onto Rue de l'Église, then continue to the Church of Saint-Jean-Baptiste (information on page 9). Feel free to push open the door and go inside.

(6) When you leave the church, turn right and walk up to Rue Principale: opposite you will see the entrance to Château de Bessay (see page 10 for more information). You are welcome to enter the garden and admire the château, its Renaissance tower and its dovecote.

(7) When you leave the property, turn right towards the town hall, then turn left onto Rue de la Mairie to reach the forge (information on page 11). The owners have generously allowed us to visit the forge, so please take care of the premises and respect them.

(8) After your visit, exit to the left, walk past the primary school, then turn right towards the Salle des Iris (S/E).
