Car park at Saint-Hilaire Church in Cléré-sur-Layon.
(S/E) Leave the car park via Rue du Layon (D54), following the yellow signposts whilst observing the Highway Code; pass the wayside cross, then the town hall, and continue to the first junction after the bridge over the Layon
(1) Continue north-east, still on the D170 to the right, until you reach the start of the path heading due east.
(2) Leave the D170 and take this path, which joins the Layon. Follow the signposts, cross the river, then turn left until you reach a bend in the river.
(3) Let the river flow off to the left and head towards the hamlet of Le Maulevrier. Continue until you come out onto a road.
(4) Follow it to the right, pass the turn-off for La Taillée and arrive at a junction at elevation 108.
(5) Turn left and, at the multi-way junction at elevation 109, turn left heading due north along the track to reach La Charonnière.
(6) At the three-way junction, turn left, pass between the vineyard plots and rejoin the Layon.
(7) Follow the riverbank to the right, then turn right to reach the Chapelle Saint-Martin.
(8) Take the path heading due north towards Passavant. You can see Passavant Castle.
(9) Cross the D168 with care and continue along the path. Cross Rue du Palais de Justice before strolling through the village.
(10) Discover Saint-Étienne Church and make your way to the Chapelle de Pitié via Rue de la Pichoterie.
(11) At the chapel, leave the street and take the path heading due north between the vineyards, which leads to the D68.
(12) Follow it to the left for about fifty metres, taking care to obey the traffic regulations, then turn left onto the path leading to the Moulins de Vent (lake).
(13) Leave the lake on your left and continue along the path. At the 109-metre mark, after the Clos de Chêne Rond, turn left, then left again towards the south-east, and follow the path through the vineyards, which joins a road.
(14) Follow it to the right for 200 m, then turn onto the path on the left which takes you up the vineyard-covered hillside to a road.
(15) Follow it to the right for 200 m and turn right onto a track between the vines. Continue uphill until you reach another road.
(16) Follow it to the left to reach the D159 via the hamlet of Brossay.
(17) Cross the D159 carefully, observing the highway code, pass La Noue to reach the D54.
(18) Cross it carefully and head towards Pré Diong, leaving the seasonal stream on your left.
(19) Take a round trip to the Château des Landes.
(20) Return to Pré Diong.
(19) Take the path on the right heading south-east towards Maison Neuve and go round the quarry, leaving it on your left.
(21) Continue along the path to the right, going round the quarry. Pass Maison Neuve and join the D170, which takes you back to Cléré-sur-Layon.
(22) Follow it to the left with care, heading due north, passing the cemetery and the wayside cross, until you reach the car park at Saint-Hilaire Church in Cléré-sur-Layon (S/E).
