Description of the walk

Start from the École des Heures Saines in Stave.

(S/E) Set off along Rue de Stavesoul (GR®129), which starts to the right of the school entrance. Walk for about 2.5 km until you reach the edge of a wood. Join a road and continue left until the next fork.

(1) Turn left towards Biesmerée. Follow the quiet country lane downhill, skirting a wood on your left, and continue to the next crossroads by a copse.

(2) Turn left towards Moulin de Vaux. Pass the market garden ‘L’orti-culture’ and continue to the right at the next junction. Walk past a farm on your right and reach the junction at the edge of Biesmerée.

(3) Turn left to head up Route de Stave. Take care, as this road is busier. Pass the cemetery and enter Stave.

(4) Continue left past the former Town Hall and follow Rue Tienne des Caves. At the junction by a property entrance with a porch on the right, take the small uphill street on the left and return to the entrance of the École des Heures Saines (S/E).

An easy walk through the countryside between Stave and Biesmerée, with no difficulty in finding your way.
Compared to the monotonous final stretch on the road between Biesmerée and Stave, there is the option of avoiding the tarmac by taking the footpaths. Just before point 3, take the small road towards the Vaux mill (signposted; it is a very large lodge housed in renovated old buildings) on the left rather than heading off to the right. At the first house, take the path on the right that goes uphill (path no. 19, not signposted on site). The path climbs up to the plateau (a slightly steeper climb than the route described, as we went down further to the mill) and joins the road to Stave. You can continue to avoid it by walking back up the road for 20 metres to the right, to find a path on the left. This path leads to Stave, which you cross via Rue de la Gilette (to the left at the path’s junction) to rejoin the route described and reach the starting point very quickly. In total, 100 m further, but 1.5 km less road!

Good evening.
Thank you for your message.
I’m looking into the possibility of changing the ending, which is, admittedly, a bit too contrived 😉

A fairly easy walk, but unfortunately most of the route is on tarmac. The scenery is lovely, the village is very peaceful and not far from France; it’s the stuff of dreams

Spot on, but we know it’s not always easy to avoid the tarmac sections

Thank you very much for your messages.
You’re right, there’s too much road towards the end. I’m looking for some trails to change the route.
Happy hiking 😉

A lovely walk, not too difficult; there aren't many trees, but the scenery is beautiful all the same

A lovely family walk... A bit disappointed with the last part – too much of it was on the road.
But the scenery is lovely and the walk is well worth it.
