Walk around Étang de Coulanges

A very easy walk, suitable for all seasons. The pond, the edge of the forest and small forest paths are the highlights of this walk.

Description of the walk

The starting point is a small car park at the end of the little Route Forestière de la Vissière (IGN) off the D81.

(S/E) The start of the walk is just to the right of a gravel path. Once you’ve taken the path, walk to the first junction.

(2) Turn left to reach the Étang de Coulanges. It’s a magical spot; in autumn, with the colourful trees, it feels like a little slice of Canada in the heart of the forest. Carry on across a small bridge and you’ll come out onto the Route Forestière de la Vissière.

(3) When you reach a junction, take the gravel track on the left until you reach the car park (S/E).

Notes

You’ll find plenty of signposts pointing towards Étang de Coulanges.
There’s a picnic area by the pond where you can easily take shelter in case of bad weather.
You don’t need any special equipment apart from a good pair of shoes.

Worth a visit

The Saint-Sever forest has numerous paths, but unfortunately they are rather poorly signposted.
After your walk, you can easily get back in the car and head south to Lac du Gast, a lovely spot where you can go birdwatching.

This is a pleasant walk through a mixed woodland. The little lake is beautiful and very peaceful. The paths are clearly signposted. There is a good car park at the start of the trail, after a short drive through the woods.
