A walk through the countryside in Oeudeghien

Situated in the Pays des Collines Nature Park, the Oeudeghien region is devoted to farming and livestock rearing. There’s no sign of any industrial activity on the horizon. The natural rolling hills of this part of Picardy Wallonia offer magnificent scenery.

Notes

The Sentier des Brebis, where the walk begins, runs alongside a tree-lined ditch between fields. It is very overgrown and progress can be a bit tricky at times. Don’t be put off, though, as the path opens up just after the sheep pen!

There’s a possible 1 km shortcut between (4) and (6), but you’ll need to use a machete in season as the end of the path is so overgrown with brambles, stinging nettles and other prickly plants.

The only major drawback for those who prefer unpaved paths is that settlements are so scattered far and wide across this region that almost all the connecting roads are tarmacked. There are only a few unpaved footpaths or country lanes left. Forest paths and tracks, however, are unpaved!

Worth a visit

Mont de l’Enclus, to the north-west of the Pays des Collines Nature Park.
Ellezelles, the Land of Witches, and its ‘Path of the Strange’.
