With this fourth stage, it’s time to tackle the westernmost part of the Tour de Wallonie as you head towards the Scheldt, but not before climbing the area’s toughest hill, Mont-Saint-Aubert.

Description of the walk

(S) Opposite the refreshment bar, follow the street to the left for about 50 metres.

(1) Turn left onto the first street, which continues as a farm track.

(2) Take the path on the right to go under the N60 bridge.

(3) After a slight left-right bend, continue left onto Rue des Blancs Arbres.

(4) In Laxeries, turn right onto Rue Goderneau.

(5) Take Rue du Chêne on the left, as far as Grand’Mazures.

(6) Turn right onto Rue Grand’Mazure.

(7) Turn left, then right, and follow Rue de la Barre.

(8) At the Y-junction, take the left-hand branch, staying on Rue de la Barre.

(9) At the junction, keep right onto Rue de la Barre.

(10) Continue straight ahead until you reach Place de Thimougies, then turn right onto Rue de Melles.

(11) Take the first right onto Rue de Jauchelle

(12) At Drève Boissac, carry on straight ahead, keeping to the left.

(13) Turn right onto Rue du Haut Hameau.

(14) Turn left onto Drève Boissac.

(15) Take the straight road on the right, Rue de Miraumont

(16) At the junction, turn right onto Rue des Déportés d’Havinnes. Continue straight ahead until you reach Vieux Comté.

(17) At Route de Verlaine, carry on straight ahead along Rue du Vieux Comté

(18) At the end, on the N48 (Provincial Road), turn right and continue for about 200 metres.

(19) Leave the N48 by turning left onto Rue d’Obigies.

(20) At the junction with Rue de Brule, take the path diagonally to the left until you reach Rue du Bourdeau. Carry on straight ahead (to the left) until you reach a junction.

(21) Take the first path on the right, Rue Boulière, opposite another street, Rue du Bourdeau.

(22) At the junction, continue along Rue Boulière to the right, before heading straight ahead towards Mont-Saint-Aubert.

(23) At the summit of Mont-Saint-Aubert, turn right twice

(24) Turn left twice onto Rue du Reposoir (GR®122).

(25) Head down the path on the right, still following the GR®122.

(26) At the end, on Rue de la Résistance, follow the GR® 122 to the right, then to the left.

(27) Leave the GR® 122 by turning right onto Rue de la Tourelle.

(28) Then take the road on the left (Chemin des Oiseaux).

(29) Follow the road, Grand’Rue, to the right, as far as the bus stop (E).

A walk along the towpaths of the new and old canals from Nimy to Péronnes. At the start, you can admire the two giant locks that have replaced the eight locks that you will then pass as you walk down the old canal. Admire the old lock houses on the old canal. However, be careful in strong winds between points (8) and (9) as the trees are fragile and it is best to avoid this section. The entire hike is on tarmac or paved paths.

Start at Café des Acacias, which has ample parking. The first part of the walk is on the GR® 122 before entering the forest. It is a lovely walk with benches and picnic areas. The path is very easy going with pine needles. Refreshments are available (with terrace) at Café des Acacias. A very pleasant walk in dry weather
