Departure from the village square. Easy and ample parking.
(S/E) Just before the post office building, take the small street on the left and continue straight on to the D65.
(1) Turn left in front of a factory producing braided electrical cable (Ets Favier) (one of the specialities of the Ambert region). Cross the road and take the uphill road to the left of the school playground, towards Vierge du Puy Bayou.
(2) On the right as you go up, you can make a short detour to visit the statue of "La Vierge de Puy Bayou". There is a small local pilgrimage in September.
(3) At a place called Le Prat, take the path on the left, which is tarmac for about 200 metres.
(4) Before the houses in Babylone, follow the path on the right that descends into the woods. Ignore the secondary paths until you reach a Y-shaped fork on a flat area.
(5) Turn right and follow the path to the hamlet of Dousson, typical of the Livradois region, which is now sparsely populated.
(6) Continue on the tarmac road and, at the next crossroads, take the road on the right. Continue on the road uphill from Pont de David to Bertignat. This is a quiet road, but please take care. Ignore the access to La Grange on the right and continue for about ten metres.
(7) Take the grassy path on the left and follow it to the next fork.
(8) Turn right at the hamlet of La Croix du Bost de Dore, continue straight ahead and keep left at the next crossroads. Take the next track on the left. In good weather, you can see the Forez mountains on your left as you climb, with the Pierre sur Haute radar station (1600m).
(9) Take the track on the left, cross a small valley, pass under a power line and join a road (D67).
(10) Follow it to the right for about 100 m and then follow the path to the left, visible in the undergrowth, until you reach a fork at the corner of a field.
(11) Turn right and join a small tarmac road with no traffic.
(12) Turn right, heading south, until you reach a crossroads with a sign for Chassagnon on the left. Follow this well-marked path to a place called Boisset (view of Forez on the left as you climb). Pass the houses and then turn right onto the path at the edge of the woods. Continue through the forest to the crossroads after the hamlet of Boisset.
(13) Turn right onto the road and continue to the four-way crossroads with a small stone cross.
(14) Turn left and follow the road to Bertignat to return to the village centre (S/E).
There is not enough information to avoid taking the wrong path. For example, to get to Dousson in the woods, you have to take the second path on the right, and there are other omissions that I will point out later when I have found the right directions!!!!!! This would be a good hike if it weren't for the lack of information!!!! You get lost at least three times!!!! Cendrine.
