Walk to Brugny Vaudancourt

Here is a walk through the vineyards in the pretty Cubry valley. You can enjoy a lovely view of the vineyards, charming wash houses and the majestic Château de Brugny. You may come across pilgrims on their way to Santiago de Compostela between Moussy and the church at Chavot.

Description of the walk

Car park at the Moussy football ground.

(S/E) From the car park, cross the roundabout and take Avenue du Mont Félix to the D951. Cross the road with care as there is no pedestrian crossing, and head straight ahead. Walk to Chavot church.

(1) At the church, continue straight ahead through the vineyards, turning slightly to the right onto the concrete path. Walk past the picnic area.

(2) At the abandoned houses, turn right. Walk to the village of Courcourt.

(3) On the road, turn right and, 100 m further on, turn left. At the crossroads, do not follow the yellow signposts, but keep to the right. Then continue left, then right, then left, staying on the vineyard path halfway up the hillside. When you reach a T-junction, turn right, rejoining the yellow signposts, and head down the grassy path towards Vaudancourt church. Just past the church, turn right, then take thesecond left, and left again. Walk past the wash house and the fountain, and carry on straight ahead until you reach the D951.

(4) Cross the road at the pedestrian crossing and turn left to walk alongside it. Pass the wayside cross, then turn right. Walk past the equestrian centre, then past the abandoned farm.

(5) Under the tall trees, take the small path on the right. Follow a steep slope up to the road (Rue du Château). Once on the road, you can see Brugny Castle opposite through the hedge. Turn right and continue in the same direction until you reach the washhouse.

(6) At the wash house, go straight on to continue in the same direction. Ignore the numerous paths leading to the vineyards on either side.

(7) When you reach a T-junction, turn right, and 100 m further on, turn left. Walk downhill to the road (D11) and cross it.

(8) Carry on straight ahead and walk to the Moulin Bleu.

(9) Go round it on the right and walk to the vineyards.

(10) At the vineyards, turn right onto the path that runs alongside them. Stay on this path, which runs at the foot of the vineyards, cross the hamlet of Tincourt, then enter Vinay via Rue du Moulin.

(11) Turn left onto Rue de Champagne, cross the Cubry bridge, and continue along the path that runs alongside the vineyards as far as Moussy. Take Rue du 11 Novembre, then Rue de la République, which continues to the right. At the war memorial, turn right. Walk to the football ground car park (S/E).

I wanted to go on this walk yesterday, 23 May 2021, but I couldn’t download the GPX file. So I switched to another walk in Mancy, which I’ve also given a very favourable review of.
I’ve just downloaded the GPX file for this hike in Brugny without any problems, so I’ll be doing that one later.

It’s a shame we couldn’t avoid passing through Vinay or seeing part of Pierry via the tarmac road. We were able to enjoy a few of the Vign’ Art sculptures.

This was a reconnaissance walk for a group of about thirty walkers.

Thank you for this review.

Le Moulin Bleu is the name of the hamlet. The buildings are still there, but you can’t tell from the outside whether the watermill’s machinery is still in place.

Thank you for this review. It’s true that from the church in Chavot to Moussy, you walk along a small road which is quite busy at certain times of day.

A very pleasant spring walk combining vineyards and wooded countryside… not to mention the pretty little churches dotted along the route.

One slight downside on the last kilometre: this walk follows a road between the vineyards and the village that’s very busy with cars, even though a sign indicates ‘walking path’.

We’re delighted nonetheless…

We’ll definitely be doing it again!

Hello,

there’s roadworks between the 2nd and the 3rd. The road was in quite a bad state in March 2020.
