Bagüeste, the abandoned village

In the heart of the Sierra de Guara, this walk partly follows the historic Huesca trail. Along the way, you’ll discover the abandoned village of Bagüeste, with a church whose ruins are well worth seeing.

Worth a visit

The abandoned village of Bagüeste has a chapel, which is surprising for such a small village.

A lovely little walk.
The only downside was that we couldn’t drive all the way to the river as described in the guide, and had to walk the rest of the way because parts of the track aren’t suitable for cars.
This adds about 4 km and around 100 metres of elevation gain to the walk, which is still very manageable.
Also, be careful not to take the GR path running alongside the track, as it doesn’t lead to the bridge and you’ll have to cross the river on foot – which, when we were there, wasn’t possible!

Last week I was in the Hautes-Pyrénées, on the border with Upper Aragon, and I’d definitely planned to go on this little trip. Unfortunately, there were lots of thunderstorms and heavy rain, which caused significant damage to the roads. So I’ve had to postpone it until my next visit.
But I’d like to thank the author of this little walk anyway.

A brilliant hike. I was all on my own – I didn’t come across a single person

The access track is really bumpy. Leaving the car at Las Bellostas adds a total of 3 km to the route – this could be an interesting option.
A very pleasant walk with the beautiful ruins of the Church of San Salvador.
