In the vicinity of Comognes-le-Libois, Saint-Fontaine and Ossogne

A lovely, easy 10 km walk, with the first part through the woods to the pretty village of Saint-Fontaine with its ford, then back towards Libois via Ossogne.

Description of the walk

Start from Rue le Long de la Commune, a dead-end street; park at the end of it.

(S/E) Return to the junction, turn right and walk uphill to the right-hand bend in the road.

(1) Turn 90° onto the path on the left, follow the field on your right, then enter the woods and reach a fork.

(2) Continue to the right and reach the edge of the woods.

(3) Head left, follow the edge of the woods, enjoy the view of the village of Ossogne and reach a road.

(4) Cross the road and continue straight ahead (Bois de Pailhe) along the long straight stretch until you reach a four-way junction.

(5) Turn right and reach a three-way junction.

(6) Take the right-hand branch and continue straight on until you reach a T-junction near the Rau de Pailhe valley.

(7) Head left, cross the Rau bridge and keep right until you reach the pretty village of Saint-Fontaine with its ford.

(8) Continue right along the road (very quiet) and enter the village of Ossogne. Keep right atthe first junction, cross the bridge over the Rau de Pailhe and arrive, immediately afterwards, at a three-way junction.

(9) Turn left, head into the woods and follow the small road until you rejoin the route you took earlier.

(1) Continue straight ahead and retrace your steps along the route you took on the way out until you reach the end of Rue le Long de la Commune (S/E).

A lovely walk on a sunny Sunday. The forest paths were still quite muddy, so make sure you’re properly kitted out.
Take the time to admire a stunning view of Ossogne and the surrounding area as you emerge from the woods. There is also a bench.
Saint-Fontaine is also well worth a visit. It’s a charming little hamlet that feels a bit like it’s from another era.
I highly recommend it. (Guidance via the app)
