Park at the foot of the Ondenon dam (dead-end road accessible from the centre of La Ricamarie).
(S/E) Take the path that climbs to the top of the dam (5 minutes of steep climbing) and pass under the power line. When you reach the dam, admire the view of the valley from the structure.
(1) Take the small path that climbs to the right. The winding climb through the forest is quite steep until you reach the Chomette plateau. Here, the view is unobstructed and takes in the whole Ondaine valley.
(2) At the farm, turn left and continue for about 600 metres until you reach a crossroads.
(3) Signposts: altitude 903 m, the highest point of the walk on this side of the Ondenon.
Turn left, off the marked trail, towards Le Guizay. Descend the winding path towards the Ondenon.
(4) At the bottom of the descent, cross the stream and climb back up towards Le Guizay. Continue along the small village road to the crossroads (altitude 867 m). Leave the road and take the path opposite, which leads to the Le Guizay viewpoint. From there, the view of Saint-Étienne is superb (the highest point of the walk on this side).
(5) Then take the path that leads to the road to the Guizay antenna, passing under the power lines. Begin the descent towards Saint-Étienne and, a little further down, do not follow the sign for Saint-Étienne but continue straight ahead. Pass the house on the left and continue to the departmental road. Follow it to the left for a few metres.
(6) Take the path on the far left that passes under the high-voltage power line and descends back to the starting point (S/E).
