Around Norman villages through fields and woods

A flat walk, apart from a short climb at the start of the route. Sections on paths through fields or along the edges of woods. A short walk through the woods and passing through villages make this a very pleasant walk.

Description of the walk

Car park at Quévreville-la-Poterie Town Hall, Grande Rue.

(S/E) Head towards the junction and go straight on at the Stop sign, passing the school on your right until you reach a small roundabout. At the exit, turn right, passing the nursery school and the sports ground. This small road very quickly becomes a dirt track.

(1) Follow it until you reach a small road at a bend. Turn left onto Route du Fresnay and continue until you reachthe first dirt track on the right.

(2) Follow this track lined with fields to the right, then turn left at the edge of the woods and reach a junction of three forest tracks. Follow the middle one straight ahead.

(3) Walk up it and, once at the top at “la Porte Rouge”, continue on to reach Rue de la Porte Des Champs in the village of Boos. Follow it to the right, ignoring thefirst path on the right, and take the second one.

(4) Turn right onto the grassy path that runs alongside houses on your left. Reach the junction with Rue du Trou du Puits. Continue straight ahead onto Rue Saint-Sauveur and carry on straight until you reach the stop sign at the road junction.

(5) Turn left onto Rue du Colombier, then left again. Walk past the church and admire the dovecote opposite it. Continue along this street until you reach a tiny roundabout (which is not shown on the map).

(6) At the roundabout, cross over to Rue de la Chesnaie. Continue to the traffic lights on the RD6014, turn left onto it and proceed to the pedestrian crossing, crossing with care.

(7) On the other side of the RD6014, turn left onto Rue de la Chaussée du Roi towards the stadium. Continue along the grassy path until you reach a junction, then turn right onto Rue de l'Ancienne Poste.
When you reach a roundabout, turn left, then follow the curve of the bend to the left and take thefirst street on the right. Leave this at the next junction.

GR® signposting

(8) Turn left onto Rue de la Nation, continue past the ‘no entry’ sign until you reach a tarmac path that leads onto a road.
Turn left onto this road, then immediately turn right onto a path marked by a post displaying several signposts for the Franqueville-Saint-Pierre routes.
Follow this path, pass a bench on your right, then reach a junction.

(9) Turn left, then immediately follow Rue Victor Hugo to the right, between the car parks and the block of flats. Continue round the bend to the left onto Rue Juliette Drouet, and reach a roundabout. Take the grassy path opposite. Continue until you reach the junction with another path.

(10) Let it branch off to the right and carry straight on at the wooden post marking theGR® “liaisons”. You’ll reach the cemetery, which you should walk alongside on your right. Pass the church on your right.
Turn right onto Rue du Général de Gaulle, pass the church and then the school, and look for a very narrow tarmac path on the left, between the houses.

(11) Follow it to the left, cross over to Rue du Maréchal Lyautey, then turn right onto Rue de Verdun and then take Rue du Président René Coty on the left.
Continue to the roundabout with the RD6014.
Cross over to the opposite side and pass the fire station on your left. Continue to the next roundabout.

(12) Turn right at the second junction and follow the RD94. Reach the secondary school and, at the bend, look out for a path on the left.

(13) Turn left onto this path between the fields. Reach a crossroads and follow the dirt track to the left.
At the next junction, leave theGR® which heads off to the right.
Head straight on along the grassy path between the fences. Reach the woods, then head down to the crossroads.

(14) Turn sharp right, then climb the wooded path on the left and follow the signpost marked number 13. Pass a bench on your left as you leave the woods and continue straight on between the fields until you reach a road.

(15) Cross it and continue along the path opposite, then cross another road. Cross this to follow the Chemin de la Briquetterie opposite. This path leads to a road; turn left here to reach the RD95.

(16) At the junction, immediately take the grassy path on the right, behind a low hedge. You’ll come out onto another path; take this to the left, then follow it round the bend to the right. It passes in front of the pony club (sign on a building on the right). When you reach a road, head towards the wayside cross, behind which a small brown post indicates the direction of the route with a white arrow that you should follow.

(17) Continue straight on along Rue Incarville until you reach the sign for Rue de la Mairie (do not take this road). Turn left to join Rue de l’Église de Saint-Aubin-Celloville.

(18) Turn right, pass the church on your left and continue straight on. You will reach a roundabout (not shown on the map); head straight across towards Route d’Ymare and follow the no-entry signs for motorists until you reach the junction with Rue Aux Loups.
Turn left and continue to the RD13.

(19) Walk along the left-hand side of the tree-lined green space in front of the Thalès company.
At the car park of this company, cross the RD13 with extreme caution and follow the footpath on the left to the roundabout. Go round it and pass in front of the water tower on Rue du Calvaire in Quévreville-la-Poterie. Continue along this street to the next roundabout.

Go round it on the right to reach the junction opposite, which you should cross to return to the (S/E).

It’s actually 17.? km, not 10 or 12 km; there must be a section missing from the route

Hello,

It’s odd that you’re getting 10 km when this route on Visorando is 17 km, and not 12 either!???

I can confirm 17.16 km, a distance tested on the IBP index website.

A lovely, well-detailed walk.
Note:
Point 9
-The STOP sign is no longer there, and another one appears further along Rue des Champs Fleuris, which causes confusion.
To take Rue de la Bergerie (sign in the wrong place), you need to turn left after the house marked ‘Direction de l’eau’
.
Point 11
Taking the Chemin Chasse-Marais to the right of the house is no problem; you come out onto the RD954, which is indeed very dangerous for a group.

A superb walk; the route is described in great detail – it’s impossible to go wrong – the only thing missing is the exact location of the stones.
On a more serious note, at point 11 it’s impossible to walk along the top of the embankment to the next junction. It’s doable for a few metres, but after that it’s farmland right up to the edge of the road. You therefore have to walk alongside the road, taking great care as it’s very dangerous (vehicles travelling at high speed and making no effort to avoid you).
Thank you for logging this route

A pleasant walk, despite a few sections through residential areas; the route is so clearly marked on the map that the commentary is almost unnecessary.

A small clarification regarding point 11: the path on the left was passable; I followed it for about a hundred metres but, wanting to follow the author’s instructions, I turned back and took the path on the right instead. It says you should then take the path on the left; in fact, you have to work out for yourself that there is a path there at all!! Just before the next house, you’ll find the GR mark crossed out; it’s on a post and very, very faded. In fact, you walk along the field on a sort of embankment, with the house on your right and the field on your left. As indicated, you’ll find the GR mark again about fifty metres further on.
