Around Saulx-le-Duc

A short, easy and very pleasant hike leading to the Butte Saint-Siméon in Saulx-le-Duc, the highest point offering a beautiful view of the Ignon valley. No technical difficulty, but the climb to the Butte Saint-Siméon is steady.

Description of the walk

Coming from Dijon or Is-sur-Tille, park on the right-hand side of the D901, at the end of a road, 100 m after the junction with the D6E and 200 m before the D6b leading to Tarsul.

(S/E) Set off along the road towards the east, then very quickly take the red and white marked GR®7 trail on the left (which you will follow for 2.5 km). After 100 m, it curves to the left. At the next intersection, take the road on the left, then left again onto a wide, slightly downhill road.

(1) Take the straight uphill path on the right which, once on the plateau, offers some beautiful views of Tarsul and the Ignon valley. After 600 m, it turns right and then arrives at a path.

(2) Take it to the left and arrive at the Roche Aiguë viewpoint.

(3) Turn north-east onto a wide, straight grassy path and continue straight ahead until you descend into Combe Pollier.

(4) Leave the GR®7 and turn right onto the path that gently climbs up the valley and arrives at a path.

(5) Take it on the left and go through a gate.

(6) At the intersection, turn right towards the Butte de Saulx-le-Duc. The path through the fields leads to the Croix du Potet, where it joins the D112j. Follow it to the right for a few dozen metres.

(7) Ignore the return path on the right and continue straight ahead, heading south-east to enter Saulx-le-Duc at Rue de l'Église.

(8) Go up to the right and pass through Place du Platane.

(9) Continue along Chemin Saint-Simon to Chapelle Saint-Siméon, at the top of the hill (at an altitude of 481 m).

(10) Follow the path to the top of the hill, which offers beautiful views of the Ignon valley, and descend to Place du Platane.

(9) Descend the path on the right to Rue du Reposoir. Turn left and walk down this street, which continues as Rue du Dessus and joins the main road (D112j). Turn left here, passing in front of the church again.

(8) Go straight ahead and take the opposite path to the one you took on the way there to reach the fork you passed on the way there.

(7) Turn left onto the path that runs alongside the market garden and continue to the Source de Fontenille.

(11) Turn left onto the south-west path that joins the D6E.

(12) Follow it down to the D901. Just before the D901, take a grassy lane on the right that leads back to the car park (S/E).
