Around Morogues

In the foothills of the Sancerre region, overlooking the Berry countryside, come and discover some of the Morogues vineyards that produce the renowned AOC wines of Ménetou-Salon.
This is also the starting point for the famous Morogues-Sancerre hike, which many people do at night and don't get to enjoy the scenery.
On the way back, depending on the weather, you may be able to see Bourges Cathedral and the Berry countryside.

Description of the walk

Park on Place des Tilleuls, near the war memorial.

(S/E) Turn left and go down Petite Rue, cross Route de la Borne and follow Route de Sancerre opposite.

(1) Turn left onto Chemin du Grouillat. After about 200 metres, continue straight ahead along the path (part ofthe GR®31). This is a 1.3 km climb with an average gradient of 4% (with some sections over 10%).

(2) Turn right and continue straight ahead at the intersection with the path leading to the village of Lass. Then follow the path to the left.

(3) Turn right and descend to the ford on the Putet stream (note: there is no bridge or footbridge).

(4) After the ford, turn left and begin another climb (1.2 km at an average gradient of 6%).

(5) At the end of the path, turn right onto the tarmac road and follow it for 600 m until you reach a crossroads.
Alternative: continue straight ahead, at the next fork, turn right and join the crossroads.

(6) Take a path on the right and follow it for 1.3 km. Turn left and take the Chemin des Conques Bas to the D59 road.

(7) Turn left and follow the D59 for 900 m.

(8) Turn right onto a path and continue straight ahead for 1.7 km. You will see the Château de Saint-Céols on your left a few metres before turning.

(9) Turn right towards Croiche.

(10) Take the first road on the right and follow it straight on to Loye.

(11) Turn left, take the paved road and ignore a road on the right.

(12) Turn right onto the path between the vineyards to reach the D46.

(13) Follow this road on the right, which leads to Morogues. Finish with a visit to the church by turning left after the bridge or going straight ahead past the wine cellars to reach the Place des Tilleuls (S/E).

The directions are not precise enough. With the app's GPS tracking, it's perfect. Regarding the route, the sections through the vineyards are pleasant, but there is a bit too much road or tarmac.

A very beautiful hike, easily followed with a GPS, and the hills are not insurmountable.
It is indeed more enjoyable to take the path at the point (5) than the road.

A very beautiful, undulating hike with stunning panoramic views. Some difficulty finding your way along the route, but this can be remedied with a mobile phone GPS. Could be improved at the end of the route by taking a different path.
At point 5, continue straight ahead and follow the circular loop that joins point 6. This avoids the road.
At point 10, turn left onto "Terres de Croiche", then when you reach Croiche, take the path on the right. This path leads directly to point 13, avoiding the roads.

A lovely walk through the vineyards. A few welcome little climbs that give your calves a good workout. This means varied views. Not much shade in strong sunshine.
Thanks to Papy de Soulangis for this description.

A pleasant hike in good weather, with plenty of variety among vineyards and countryside. Not far away, you can also visit Dietz Garden and the pottery village of La Borne.
The climbs on the hike are not as bad as they are made out to be, which might scare some people off!
As the hike is not marked as such, it is important not to lose your way. Some sections are shared with the mountain bike route, which I think could be mentioned.

Very beautiful views, best enjoyed on a clear day to fully appreciate the panoramas.
For certain junctions, check carefully on the map, as the names of the places are not indicated on the ground.
Enjoy your hike!
Jean-Jacques, you can plan other hikes for us, thank you in advance.
