Around the fortified church of Saint-Georges-du-Rosay

Discover the fortified church of Saint-Georges-du-Rosay and explore the countryside criss-crossed by beautiful sunken paths. The presence of numerous springs means the route remains particularly damp all year round. Sturdy footwear is recommended.

Worth a visit

Romanesque church fortified in the 16th century during the Wars of the League (notable for the originality of its fortification system). 18th-century altarpieces. The church was restored in the 19th century.
The fortified porch, flanked by two corbelled turrets, features watchtowers and embrasures, giving it the appearance of a fortress. There is also a Romanesque nave with small windows surmounted by a decorated monolithic limestone lintel. The windows are ogival. The seigneurial chapel to the south is decorated with pendent-keystone vaults, as well as columns with volute capitals.

The 11th-century Church of Saint George, a listed building.
La Miloudière, formerly owned by the Cassini family.
The Crosses of Launay.
The Jugeaux ford, which further on takes the name Rosay.

A lovely walk with plenty of paths, though some sections are impassable. This route is best done in summer or early September to avoid getting very dirty when wading through the muddy water, which splashes up over your shoes.

I’ve never seen a route so poorly signposted! There are yellow markings going in all directions, with coloured dots – it’s completely baffling. And yet this isn’t our first hike. We ended up giving up!

The suggested route does not always follow the signposting found on site.
That’s where the Visorando app comes in handy.

Much of the route has been altered, so you’ll need to follow the new route, which is very well signposted.
It’s a pleasant walk without any major difficulties, with well-shaded paths.
However, it isn’t very well maintained and you often have to walk through quite tall grass.

A really lovely walk, with a few minor issues with the directions, but it’s manageable (well, thanks to the app, anyway)
And there was one major drawback, though: we had to change our route because two large dogs were blocking the path in a very intimidating way....
