Departure from the Voûte Vauban, where you can linger for a few moments to better understand the water collection system that feeds the Canal du Midi.
(S/E) From the Voûte Vauban, head east towards the dam along a wide path lined with tall trees that follow the supply channel.
(1) After En Bosc, take the leftmost road (leaving the path around the lake) which will take you to the dam.
(2) Cross the entire dam.
(3) Leave the dam via the second path on the left and turn right 30 metres later onto a tight double hairpin bend that heads north then north-east towards La Baraque. Please note: this hairpin bend is not very obvious.
Walk along the fields on your right and you will come to a fork.
(4) Turn left and pass through a heavily deforested area until you reach a small tarmac road.
(5) Continue left and overlook Borie Neuve after a very tight right-hand circular bend. Continue north then north-west to join the D45 before Saint-Jammes (private property).
(6) Take the departmental road on the left for 200 metres until you reach a three-way junction with a track.
(7) Continue right for about 400 metres and take a shaded path on the right. A little further on, you will come to the ruins of a pre-Romanesque chapel and a centuries-old beech tree (well worth a detour!).
(8) After enjoying the site, retrace your steps along the same route back to the three-way junction.
(7) Turn right onto a long track that descends westwards then south-west towards Plo du Palet. Continue until you reach a road in front of the entrance to Montagnet (private road).
(9) In front of the private road sign, turn left onto a small path that runs alongside an alpine meadow to the yellow marked trail about 400 m further on.
Follow the yellow markings to the finish
(10) Turn right and enjoy a beautiful view of the Montagnet property and its alpine pasture area. Continue west, passing a first path on your right that leads back to Montagnet, and continue to the next fork.
(11) Begin a steep descent with several tight bends, which can be dangerous in wet weather. You will reach a footbridge.
(12) Cross the Sor on the wooden footbridge and continue straight ahead on the path that joins a track running alongside a penstock. Turn left, then when the penstock goes underground, take a path that branches off to the right (west) at a sharp bend.
(13) This uphill path overlooks the Sor.
(14) After a sharp right turn, head north to reach a small tarmac road.
(15) Turn left to climb back up to the village, passing in front of the water treatment plant.
(16) At En Borrel, at the crossroads, continue straight ahead, pass a cross and you will come back to the road leading to Les Cammazes. Go up this road on the left and after 300 m, you will find the Voûte Vauban.
(S/E) Return to the car park.
