Park on the old bend in the D964, on the right coming from Castelnau-de-Montmiral, before the hamlet of Saint-Martin-d'Urbens (glass recycling container).
(S/E) Head east on a narrow path that runs alongside a field on the right-hand side.
(1) At the end of the field, turn right onto a small path and cross a stream. Follow the Mespel road to the left and climb up to the second bend.
(2) Then take a wide path on the left. This narrows to a limestone plateau path as it climbs. Follow it until you reach a PR®.
(3) Turn left with thePR® (yellow markings) heading north-northeast and reach theGR®46(red and white markings).
(4) At the crossroads at La Trapasse, follow theGR®46(red and white markings) opposite towards Bruniquel (sign). You will come to the wide Route Forestière des Beudes and walk along the stream of the same name for about 1 km.
(5) Turn left towards Bruniquel and cross the Ruisseau des Beudes. The trail climbs back up into the forest. After Merlins, the trail heads due north.
(6) When theGR®46trail branches off to the left (shortcut), continue straight ahead (north). Pass the heath and Débès farms. Continue 50 metres past the abandoned Palme farm.
(7) Then take a path on the left that descends gently. Traces of yellow markings are still visible in places. Follow this trail down into the valley of the Marières caves (these caves are located on the steep limestone slope opposite the path). Turn left and reach a tarmac road.
(8) Turn left, cross the hamlet of Marières and continue through the woods and then between the fields towards Brian de Vère. Join theGR®46and cross the hamlet.
(9) Just after the last house, at the cross, turn left to join the D964.
Cross this road with caution and continue opposite. Cross the Vère on a footbridge and continue to the right, following the river.
(10) At a place called Belbèze, turn left onto the tarmac road.
(11) At a sharp bend in the road, continue straight ahead along a footpath. After several bends, this path heads south and arrives on the plateau with beautiful views of the Vère valley. Descend and arrive at a T-junction.
(12) Turn right to reach the hamlet of Les Nouals.
(13) First turn right then left to follow a wide dirt track downhill to the south.
(14) You will come to a small tarmac road; follow it to the left. At the large junction with the D65, leave the road and take a stony path on the left. Descend towards the valley.
(15) About a hundred metres before reaching the Vère ford, turn right. First follow a wide dirt track through the woods, then walk along a large field.
(16) At the tarmac road, turn left to cross the bridge over the river. You will reach the D964.
(17) Turn left towards Saint-Martin d'Urbens to return to the car park (A/D).
