The starting point is on Wanngartenweg behind Arlesheim Cathedral (Dom), where parking is fairly easy.
(S/E) Head north to Mühlenbodenweg, turn right onto the tarmac road which becomes a gravel path.
Cross the bridge, squeeze through a passage between two houses, cross the road and take the small path on the left towards the Proserpina cave.
Turn right onto the steps to reach a network of paths, continue climbing, following the signs for Schloss.
(1) At the "paillote" (hut), continue left along the wall that passes under Birseck Castle.
Continue along the path which descends onto a tarmac road.
Turn left for about 20 metres, then go up the road on the right towards Burg Reichenstein, a 10th-century neo-feudal castle.
Retrace your steps to take the small Elsa Heierli Weg path towards Gstüd - Ränggersmatt.
The path climbs through remarkable holly bushes.

(2) Descend to the right. At the end of the path, turn slightly left and at the signpost turn right towards Eichmatt.
Walk along the edge of the forest, turn left at the bench to enter the woods and immediately turn right to climb a path with old boundary stones in the middle.
Join a tarmac road and follow it to the right to reach a crossroads where a signpost indicates Schönmatt. Follow hiking trail 32 (Via Surprise). Continue climbing for about 50 m.
Turn right onto the small path that climbs up between the orchards. At the top, follow the road to the right, passing in front of the Schönmatt restaurant.
You are now in Kirschenland (cherry country). Stay on this road until you reach Stollenhauser.
(3) Follow the "Via Surprise" south then south-west to the Gempenturm restaurant.
You can climb the observation tower for a 360° view.
Retrace your steps.
(4) At the crossroads, take the path down to the left towards Schloss Dorneck - Dornach.
When you reach a path, follow it downhill to the left heading north.
(5) Take the path on the right and further down, at the Schartenmatt sign, continue to follow Schloss Dorneck.
(6) Continue straight ahead and pass the water station.
(7) Cross the road, continue straight ahead on the path, rejoin it and turn left (south-west) towards the Schlosshof restaurant.
Continue downhill to visit Schloss Dorneck, a castle that is now in ruins.
Retrace your steps, cross the road and turn left (north-west) onto the path running alongside Schlossweg.
(8) Turn right onto Dorneckstrasse, then right onto Juraweg, where you will begin to see picturesque houses.
(9) Turn right to reach the Goetheanum, go around the building on your left, and continue for about 300 metres down Hügelweg.
(10) On the right, take the path that crosses over the stream and arrives at Rue Auf der Höhe.
At the end of the street, turn right, then left to return to the starting point. (S/E)
