In the heart of the Corrèze forest in Palisse

A circular in the heart of the Corrèze forest, starting with a view of the church's free-standing bell tower, unique in France, and the wrought iron sculptures surrounding the monument.

Set off to explore the deciduous and coniferous woods, listening to the sounds of the trees and birds, and if you're lucky, you may even encounter some wild animals.

Description of the walk

Yellow signage

Parking at Place de la Mairie.

(S/E) Head towards Neuvic on the D47, pass the church on your left, cross the Vianon river and arrive at a crossroads in front of the recycling bins. Turn right and continue for a few metres.

(1) Immediately turn left onto the path that climbs into the forest. Follow this path until you reach a wider track, which you should follow until you reach an intersection.

(2) Take the hairpin turn to the left, pass under a power line and arrive at a place called Pellasiauve. Turn right onto the D47 and continue for a few dozen metres.

(3) Take a sharp left turn onto the Renardière road towards Malsagne and follow it until you reach a fork.

(4) Continue left at the fork until you reach the next fork.

(5) Leave this road, take the path on the right and ignore the access to a private property on the left. Continue to the next fork.

(6) Take a path on the right to join the D171 (when the leaves are out, the yellow markings or the path may be hidden by branches).

(7) Follow this departmental road (D171) to the left until you reach a place called Baratout.

(8) Turn left before the containers, take the forest path opposite towards the south-west, ignore a dead-end path on the left and continue to a fork.

(9) Continue straight ahead until you reach a road.

(10) Turn right, join the D88 and follow it to the left towards Palisse. Cross the Vianon again, ignore a road on the right and, about 200 m further on, look for a forest path on the right.

(11) Take this path, pass a power line, go around a campsite and you will reach the D47 at a place called Les Plaines.

(12) Follow it to the left for about 150 m.

(13) Turn right onto a forest track and follow it to Pont Valet.

(14) At the end of the track, turn left onto the D103 and follow it for about 250 m.

(15) Turn right onto a path, which is sometimes difficult to see due to tree branches, and continue to a crossroads.

(16) Turn left onto the path to descend towards Bourg de Palisse, rejoin the D47 and follow it to the right until you reach Place de la Mairie (S/E).

A pleasant route, situated, as advertised, mainly in woodland, despite a few clear-cut areas.
