Description of the walk

Departure from the car park (approx. 10 spaces) in the village of Artigues, near the Town Hall.

(S/E) Join Rue de la Mairie and follow the red and white markings of the GR®99A.

(1) Turn left to enter a wood. Follow the marked path, leaving the fields and vineyards on your left, for a little over 2 km, until you reach a fork at the edge of a vineyard. Possible alternative: see the Practical Information section.

(2) Turnleft towards the Notre-Dame du Revest Chapel (parking available), continuing on the GR®.

(3) Turn right onto the D561 to reach the village, at the old cooperative winery.

(4) Turn right. Go up opposite, via Chemin de la Fontaine Neuve, pass in front of the oratory, and join Grand Rue.

(5) Head left, then take the stairs on the right. Then turn left, then right to reach Place du Four Vieil.

(6) Continue towards the castle.

(7) Walk back down Place du Four Vieil.

(6) Turn left and take the stairs that lead first to Place Neuve, then to Grand Rue.

(5) Retrace your steps in the opposite direction to return to the junction after the chapel.

(2) Continue straight ahead tobegin the climb towards the ridges, following the blue markings, which you will find after a sign for "Artigues par les crêtes" (Artigues via the ridges), after the intersection. Follow a track that climbs for 100 metres, ignoring a path that goes straight ahead into the bend.

(8) Turn left to begin a steep climb towards a water reservoir, and continue on a steady climb towards the ridge. Follow the ridge, still following the blue markings, and enjoy the 360° panorama. Informative signs and orientation tables will enhance your walk. Pass the Oratoire Saint-Jean d'Esparron, then under a power line, and continue straight ahead. Reach the Croix d'Artigues and come out onto the Route Saint Benoît - Joseph Labre, just after a reservoir.

(9) Turn right onto the road to descend gently towards Artigues and return to the car park (S/E).
