Parking: Place Albert1er near the church in Arquennes.
(S/E) Starting from the small square with your back to the Café du Stade, go around the church on the right, onto the Cour de la Copenne. At the end, turn right onto a small asphalt path which continues with a staircase leading up to the old railway line 141.
(1) Take it to the right, cross afirst bridgeand then asecond one to reach the Venelle du Boulanger. Continue straight ahead between the two benches. From there, the path is paved (Ravel). It passes under the Pont à Pierrots bridge towards the Bois d'Arpes, running parallel to Rue des Écoles and then Chemin du Pont à Pierrots on your right. After passing under the high-voltage line and exiting onto trail no. 58, you will arrive at the Bois d'Arpes 150 m further on.
(2) Leave the Ravel and turn right into the woods to enjoy the forest environment. You can stay on the Ravel if the ground is muddy. After about 1 km, the trail joins the bend in the Chemin de Haut-Puison.
(3) Turn left and you will soon reach a crossroads with a wide footpath. Take this to the right and continue straight ahead until you reach the junction with Rue du Gendarme (car park).
(4) Turn left and follow the asphalt road for about 300 m.
(5) At the next crossroads, turn left onto Vieux chemin de Soignies, a wide carriageway. The road crosses fields and then runs alongside the Bois de l'Hôpital, where it becomes Chaussée de Soignies. It finally meets Chaussée de Bornival near a small chapel.
(6) Turn right onto Chaussée de Bornival and walk for about 200 m. In the distance, you can see the tower of the Ronquières inclined plane, and you can make out the old canal in the hollow straight ahead. At the fork, keep right on Chaussée de Bornival and join Rue Félicien Canart
(7) After the bridge over the Thines, turn left towards the old canal, walking alongside old houses. Notice an ornate door on your left. The street gradually turns to the right and joins the old Brussels-Charleroi Canal.
(8) Turn left towards lock no. 24. Stay on this side of the canal, which is prettier than the other. See practical information.
(9) Pass by the private Château de la Rocq, at lock no. 22, which houses reception rooms.
(10) At lock no. 20, continue along the path, still on the same side of the canal, until you reach the remains of the old bridge that once spanned it. As you pass, note the pretty little bridge over the Samme.
(11) When you reach Rue de la Samme, near the ornate bridge over the canal, turn left and follow several pretty little paths and steps in the centre of Arquennes to reach the church (S/E).
